Daniel Norris, making his Tigers debut, allowed a lone run to the Orioles in 7 1/3 innings on Sunday.

Norris, a highly-regarded pitching prospect, was acquired from the Blue Jays in the David Price trade. The lefty held the O's to four hits and a walk while striking out five. Norris had mixed results in five starts in April for the Jays, but owns a 3.23 ERA on the year with a 1.30 WHIP and a 23/13 K/BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings. He'll look to keep it going in a home start against the Red Sox next.

J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run as the Tigers fended off the Orioles on Sunday.

Martinez gave starter Daniel Norris some early run support when he drove a Ubaldo Jimenez offering over the fence in center field for a three-run home run. He suffered a scare on Saturday, when he left after fouling a ball off his knee. His performance Sunday was heartening for the Tigers. Martinez is batting .288/.347/.561 with 29 home runs and 71 RBI.

Roberto Osuna recorded four outs for his seventh save, wrapping up Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Royals.

Osuna allowed a two-out, two-run home run to Ben Zobrist immediately upon entering, but struck out Lorenzo Cain to end the eighth inning with the Jays still ahead 3-2. Then the Jays got both runs back for him. In the top of the ninth, he got Eric Hosmer to ground out, then erased a Kendry Morales single when Salvador Perez grounded into a game-ending double play. Osuna is 7-for-8 in save chances on the year with a 2.27 ERA and a 53/11 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings.

Astros RHP prospect Mark Appel matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts Saturday in a start for Triple-A Fresno.

He allowed just one hit over seven shutout frames. 64 of his 91 pitches Saturday went for strikes. It was the 24-year-old's first double-digit strikeout game since August 26, 2014. The seven-inning performance was Appel's longest since getting promoted to Fresno on June 27. The former No. 1 overall pick could join the Astros when rosters expand in September.

James Loney went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI hits in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.

Loney doubled home a run off Red Sox starter Wade Miley in the fourth inning and later hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to help the Rays to a 4-3 win over their division rivals. The first baseman isn't hitting particularly well this season (.263/.313/.345 with three homers and 20 RBI) and holds little-to-no fantasy value.

Ben Zobrist supplied a two-run home run and walked in four plate appearances in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Zobrist went yard twice on Saturday, and added another in his fourth game as a Royal. His two-run blast in the eighth inning brought the Royals to within a run at 3-2. Zobrist is batting .272/.355/.480 with nine home runs and 39 RBI on the year.

Edinson Volquez limited the Blue Jays to two runs in six innings, but took the loss on Sunday.

It was a wild one, as Volquez threw inside to Josh Donaldson on multiple occasions, including hitting him in the first inning. The benches eventually cleared in the seventh inning with Volquez out of the game. The right-hander gave up four hits overall and walked three while striking out four. After years of mediocrity, Volquez has backed up his 2014 rebirth with another solid campaign, posting a 3.20 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and a 99/50 K/BB ratio in 132 innings. He'll try to get back in the win column with a weekend home start versus the White Sox.
Aug 2 - 5:00 PM

David Ortiz went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Ortiz's third-inning RBI double off Rays starter Jake Odorizzi pushed the Red Sox advantage to 3-1, but the boys from Tampa would chip away and ultimately prevail with a 4-3 win, dropping the Sox to a disappointing 47-59. Ortiz is hitting .246/.337/.469 with 20 homers and 59 RBI. The numbers aren't as gaudy as we're accustomed to, but he remains a productive power bat.
