Shane Vereen (ankle) is officially active for Week 16 against the Jets.

Dec 21 - 11:32 AM

Dwayne Bowe (illness) is active for Week 16 against the Steelers.

He'll be a borderline WR4 in a dream matchup with the Steelers' shaky secondary.

Cam Newton is active for Week 16 against the Browns.

Dec 21 - 11:28 AM

Chiefs declared WR Donnie Avery, QB Aaron Murray, CB Marcus Cooper, RB Charcandrick West, OL Eric Kush, OL Larry Duvernay-Tardif and DL Nick Williams inactive for Week 16 against the Steelers.

Avery wasn't listed on the injury report, so he's a healthy scratch. Dwayne Bowe (illness) is good to go against the Steelers' bottom-five secondary. With Avery banished to the bench, we'd expect a bigger role for Albert Wilson.
Dec 21 - 11:27 AM

Julio Jones (strained oblique) is officially active for Week 16 against the Saints.

The Falcons reportedly saw enough from Jones in a pre-game workout to make him active despite Jones missing every practice this week. Jones could be limited by his oblique injury, but the buzz around Falcons' camp has always been he would be more than a decoy if active. He is a risky play during championship week, but his upside makes him a mid-range WR2 even with the risk.

The Boston Globe's Ben Volin expects Shane Vereen to "pick up the slack in the passing game" with Julian Edelman (concussion) out for Week 16.

It's quite possible Sunday will be a "Vereen Game" against the Jets. He's had a lot of success against New York in the past, and it seems unlikely that the Patriots would attack Rex Ryan's stout defensive front with a power rushing attack, particularly after losing LeGarrette Blount (shoulder). Vereen is an intriguing RB2/flex play in PPR leagues and cheap "punt" in daily formats.

The Denver Post suggests the artificial turf at Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium makes it less likely Ronnie Hillman (questionable, foot) plays this week.

Hillman is "close" to returning, but the Broncos won't rush him back after doing so with Montee Ball (groin) and ultimately losing him for the season. "I'm better than I was," Hillman said. "Getting better. Progressing. I'm just waiting for them to say, 'You're up this week.' Whenever that happens, it happens. Playoffs, next week, I don't know." Look for Juwan Thompson to spend one more week as C.J. Anderson's primary breather back.

Coach John Fox said Peyton Manning (thigh) "looked good" in Saturday's practice.

Manning's participation in practice this week was "fairly normal," according to Fox. He should be far closer to 100 percent this week than last, when he only attempted 20 passes in a win at San Diego. Denver's shift toward a run-heavy, ball-control team is a concern, but Manning is still a no-brainer top-6 fantasy quarterback this week.
