Chris Hatcher gave up a three-run homer in a tie game to take a loss Friday against the Padres.

Yimi Garcia or Pedro Baez should have entered the season as the Dodgers' No. 2 reliever, but Dave Roberts has favored Hatcher since day one. That'll probably begin to change now, as Hatcher has given up three homers and walked eight while allowing 10 runs in 10 2/3 innings. Unfortunately, Garcia is on the DL, but Baez is available and Adam Liberatore is making a case for an enhanced role.

Carl Crawford went 0-for-4 on Friday and is 1-for-11 with a walk since coming off the disabled list.

Crawford could have used a hot start upon returning in order to secure the starting gig that was initially expected to be his while Andre Ethier was out. Dave Roberts figures to keep mixing and matching for now and occasionally using Howie Kendrick in left to make room for Chase Utley at second.
Apr 30 - 1:28 AM

Tyler Chatwood scattered five hits over 6 1/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Diamondbacks on Friday.

It's not saying a whole lot, but Chatwood certainly looks like the Rockies' ace from here; he's keeping the ball on the ground and he's amassed a 20/7 K/BB in 29 2/3 innings. It's been good for a 3-2 record and a 2.73 ERA to date. We're guessing he'll continue to be an above average starter, but with Coors weighing him down, he's a streaming option in mixed leagues at best.
Apr 30 - 1:22 AM

Robbie Ray was tagged for five runs and four homers in four-plus innings by the Rockies on Friday.

It could have been worse, considering that Ray gave up two walks and three more hits in addition to the four homers. Ray hadn't allowed a single homer through four starts this year and he gave up just nine in 127 2/3 innings last season, so tonight was certainly something of a fluke. Still, he's more of a streamer/spot-starter in mixed leagues than an every-week option.
Apr 30 - 1:20 AM

Trevor Story went 2-for-4 and hit his 10th homer of the year against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Story took over sole possession of the major league lead in homers with his fifth-inning blast off Robbie Ray... for about a minute and a half. Then Nolan Arenado hit his 10th homer, going back-to-back with Story. With the homer tonight, Story has five homers in four games at Chase Field, to go along with four in 11 games at Coors (and one in three games at Great American).
Apr 30 - 1:18 AM

Nick Hundley homered, doubled and drove in three runs Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Hundley hasn't missed a beat since returning from a concussion last weekend. He's hitting .278 with five extra-base hits and seven walks in 36 at-bats.
Apr 30 - 1:14 AM

Felix Hernandez shut out the Royals for 7 2/3 innings to earn his second win of the year on Friday.

Hernandez's velocity remains down a bit and he's walked 18 batters in 32 2/3 innings, yet here he is with a 1.38 ERA after five starts. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four in this one. We're still not all that optimistic about him finishing the year as a top-20 SP.
Apr 30 - 1:12 AM

Kris Medlen lost despite holding the Mariners to one run and one hit in 5 1/3 innings on Friday.

The one hit was a Seth Smith homer, dooming Medlen to a loss in a 1-0 game. The right-hander also walked five batters, which shortened his night but didn't lead to any additional runs. He's still on shaky ground in the Royals' rotation, but tonight's performance should help his cause a bit. He's 1-2 with a 4.87 ERA.
