Jace Peterson went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, striking the big blow to defeat the Phillies on Sunday.

Peterson broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning when he belted an Adam Morgan offering to right field in the fifth inning. His effort helped the Braves avoid a four-game series sweep in Philadelphia. The second baseman isn't normally one for power, as he's batting .245/.322/.343 with 44 RBI and only four home runs.

Robbie Ray failed to give the Diamondbacks length in Sunday's loss to the Astros, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings.

Ray avoided the big inning, instead allowing a slow trickle of runs, with one scoring in the second, two scoring in the fourth and a final run coming home in the fifth frame. He struck out five and walked three as he fell to 3-6 on the season. Ray's the owner of a 3.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 63/20 K/BB ratio in 71 2/3 innings, numbers which he'll take into his next start, a home outing against the Reds.

Chris Davis went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Tigers.

Davis provided the only blemish on the afternoon for the Tigers' young lefty Daniel Norris, homering in the fourth inning. The 1B/OF has matched last year's home run total at 26, and has also knocked in 72 runs while hitting .245/.327/.504.
Aug 2 - 5:18 PM

Ubaldo Jimenez served up six runs in 4 2/3 innings, losing to the Tigers on Sunday.

J.D. Martinez put Jimenez behind the eight-ball early, driving a three-run home run in the first inning. The Tigers then rallied for three runs on four two-out hits in the fifth, chasing the right-hander from the game. Overall, he allowed six hits and a walk while striking out only two. Jimenez has been hot-and-cold as of late, currently owning a 4.04 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and a 110/39 K/BB ratio over 118 innings. He'll attempt to rebound in a road start versus the Angels.
Aug 2 - 5:16 PM

Orioles optioned RHP Jorge Rondon to Triple-A Norfolk.

Rondon was just with the club for two games to provide emergency depth in the bullpen. He did a terrific job on Sunday, hurling 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Tigers, allowing three hits and striking out one. He should get another chance with the big league club soon.
Aug 2 - 5:13 PM

Daniel Norris, making his Tigers debut, allowed a lone run to the Orioles in 7 1/3 innings on Sunday.

Norris, a highly-regarded pitching prospect, was acquired from the Blue Jays in the David Price trade. The lefty held the O's to four hits and a walk while striking out five. Norris had mixed results in five starts in April for the Jays, but owns a 3.23 ERA on the year with a 1.30 WHIP and a 23/13 K/BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings. He'll look to keep it going in a home start against the Red Sox next.
Aug 2 - 5:13 PM

J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run as the Tigers fended off the Orioles on Sunday.

Martinez gave starter Daniel Norris some early run support when he drove a Ubaldo Jimenez offering over the fence in center field for a three-run home run. He suffered a scare on Saturday, when he left after fouling a ball off his knee. His performance Sunday was heartening for the Tigers. Martinez is batting .288/.347/.561 with 29 home runs and 71 RBI.
Aug 2 - 5:09 PM

Roberto Osuna recorded four outs for his seventh save, wrapping up Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Royals.

Osuna allowed a two-out, two-run home run to Ben Zobrist immediately upon entering, but struck out Lorenzo Cain to end the eighth inning with the Jays still ahead 3-2. Then the Jays got both runs back for him. In the top of the ninth, he got Eric Hosmer to ground out, then erased a Kendry Morales single when Salvador Perez grounded into a game-ending double play. Osuna is 7-for-8 in save chances on the year with a 2.27 ERA and a 53/11 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings.
