Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said Matt Carpenter (paternity leave) will be back by Saturday.

Carpenter left the team Wednesday after his wife went into labor. At most, he'll miss two more games. Greg Garcia was called up to take his place on the active roster.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Chris Young (forearm) looked "fantastic" in Thursday's simulated game.

Young was placed on the disabled list with a strained forearm earlier this month but has made a quick recovery and should return to the Royals' rotation in relatively short order. The right-hander pitched surprisingly well during Kansas City's postseason run last year but has struggled to a 6.88 ERA over seven starts in 2016.

Kendrys Morales will miss 3-4 days with a sprained right middle finger.

Morales wasn't in the lineup Wednesday against Minnesota and now we know why. Brett Eibner will fill in at DH Thursday against the White Sox. Morales hasn't found his stroke yet this year. So far, he's hitting just .187 with five homers in 45 appearances. Maybe the time off will do him some good.

Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Mike Moustakas will miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL.

Moustakas is getting a second opinion but Yost isn't optimistic. "To lose two All-Stars on one play is kind of tough," said Yost. "But you just deal with it." Moustakas should be ready for the start of spring training next year. With Moustakas done for the season and Alex Gordon sidelined with a broken wrist, Kansas City's bid for a third consecutive AL pennant isn't off to a great start.

Braves recalled RHP Chris Withrow from Triple-A Gwinnett.

He'll be taking Casey Kelly's spot on the active roster. Withrow has been lights out in the minors, allowing just one unearned run over 8 1/3 innings for Gwinnett. He produced a respectable 3.86 ERA over 10 appearances for the Braves earlier this year.

Braves optioned RHP Casey Kelly to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Kelly drew the start against Philadelphia on Sunday before logging four innings in a relief appearance Wednesday versus the Brewers. The 26-year-old will do plenty of traveling between Atlanta and Gwinnett this year. Chris Withrow was called up to take his roster spot.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports MLB has suspended Hector Olivera 82 games for his involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident last month.

Olivera will not appeal the suspension, which was made retroactive to April 30. He'll be eligible for reinstatement on August 1. The Braves put Olivera on administrative leave after he was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on April 13. The team tried to trade him after the incident but couldn't find any takers. The 31-year-old has hit .245 with two homers and 13 RBI across 30 big league appearances.
May 26 - 5:38 PM

The Rangers will call up Jurickson Profar from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

That's when Rougned Odor will begin serving his seven-game suspension for punching Jose Bautista in the face. Profar is a shortstop by trade but will handle second base in Odor's absence. The 23-year-old hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2013. Profar could boost his trade value with a strong showing over the next week. He's played reasonably well for Round Rock this year, hitting .284 with five homers and four steals. The Rangers haven't announced who will go down in the corresponding roster move.
