Jeff Samardzija disposed of the Reds with ease Tuesday, recording nine strikeouts over eight frames of one-run ball in a 3-1 victory.

Shark served up a longball to Adam Duvall, but it was a solo shot and he allowed just three hits and one walk on the night. Samardzija has been a bit up and down so far this season as he often can, but he's ultimately produced with four wins, a 3.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 35/12 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings. He'll try to keep it going this weekend at home versus the Rockies.

Santiago Casilla converted his sixth save of the season with a scoreless appearance in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Casilla relieved Javier Lopez after Lopez led off the ninth by hitting Joey Votto with a pitch. The Giants closer promptly induced a double-play ball and then got a groundout to end it. Casilla has blown two saves but sports a 1.69 ERA and 0.75 WHIP over his first 11 appearances.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Chad Girodo from Triple-A Buffalo.

Girodo will give the Blue Jays a fresh bullpen arm. The left-hander spent one day in the majors late last month and threw two scoreless innings of relief. He has very good career numbers in the minor leagues.
May 3 - 11:18 PM

Aaron Nola pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out seven, in a 1-0 shutout of the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Nola's stat line looked eerily similar to the one he put up against the Nationals in his last start, allowing just two hits and a walk while fanning seven. It was a continuation of a coming out party for the 22-year-old, who has followed up on a promising 2015 debut by posting a 2.93 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 44/7 K/BB ratio over 40 innings. Nola will try to stay hot Sunday when he visits the Marlins.
May 3 - 11:16 PM

John Lamb's season debut was a good one, as he tossed six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision versus the Giants.

Lamb coughed up a run in the first inning but held the Giants off the scoreboard over the next five frames. He yielded six hits and walked three on the night while striking out four. Lamb obviously isn't in a great situation with the ballpark he plays in and the team he's on, but he could be an interesting deep-league addition, particularly if you need strikeouts. He'll face the Brewers this weekend.

Blue Jays optioned 1B/3B Matt Dominguez to Triple-A Buffalo.

Dominguez was 0-for-7 with three strikeouts during his nearly week-long stay in the bigs. The 26-year-old stands as a .232/.274/.372 career major league hitter.
May 3 - 11:15 PM

Ryan Howard hit a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Howard finished 1-for-3 in the game, with his sixth-inning blast serving as the only run in the contest. The home run was his sixth of the season, but he's got just 11 RBI for all that power. That's due in part to the fact that power is all he's sporting these days, as he's hitting just .190/.255/.417 with 32 strikeouts overall.
May 3 - 11:08 PM

Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's victory over the Reds.

All three of his hits were doubles. The Giants tallied 10 hits on the night and finally scratched across the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning. Posey has picked up seven hits over his last three games and has pushed his average from .264 to .315 over his last five contests.
