Eduardo Escobar's bat came along with a three hits, a homer and five RBI as the Twins crushed the A's 13-0 on Wednesday.

Escobar's presence in the middle of the Twins order was turning into quite the punchline with him batting .194/.217/.299 in 67 at-bats entering the day. He doubled his homer and RBI totals in this one, but he still shouldn't be batting fifth and playing a corner outfield spot for a major league team. On the other hand, he probably wouldn't be too bad as a No. 8 hitter and starting shortstop.

Kyle Gibson blanked the A's for six innings in picking up his third win Wednesday.

Gibson has a nice 2.97 ERA despite having fanned 11 batters in 36 1/3 innings this season. He struck out one and walked two tonight. Even with his groundball tendencies, he can't succeed with this kind of K/BB ratio. Of course, he'll probably improve there, but he still doesn't come recommended in mixed leagues.
May 6 - 11:35 PM

Scott Kazmir was tagged for six runs in six innings by the Twins on Wednesday.

Kazmir was due for a dud after opening the season with a 1.62 ERA through five starts. He's still throwing plenty well, and he should bounce back from this just fine.
May 6 - 11:33 PM

Danny Santana had three hits and three runs scored from the ninth spot in the order Wednesday against the A's.

That's what the Twins were hoping for from Santana in the leadoff spot again this year. When it didn't materialize, they finally moved him down to ninth. It's where he belongs, but he wouldn't seem to be worth playing in mixed leagues again unless he goes back to the top of the lineup.
May 6 - 11:32 PM

Kennys Vargas, out of the starting lineup despite six hits this month, homered off the bench Wednesday against the A's.

Oddly enough, it's Vargas's third homer in 19 at-bats as a first baseman. He's hitting .167 with no homers in 62 at-bats as a designated hitter. Of course, the Twins aren't going to have him and Joe Mauer switch spots anytime soon, so he's going to have to perform better at DH to stick in the majors.
May 6 - 11:30 PM

Hector Rondon escaped with his sixth save on Wednesday as the Cubs edged the Cardinals 6-5.

Rondon allowed a leadoff single to Peter Bourjos, who advanced to third base on an infield ground out on a hit-and-run. Rondon then walked Matt Holliday before getting Mark Reynolds to strike out and Jhonny Peralta to ground out to end the game. Rondon is now 6-for-7 in save chances with a 1.50 ERA and a 12/2 K/BB ratio in 12 innings.
May 6 - 11:28 PM

Lance Lynn fell to 1-3 on Wednesday, giving up five runs in six innings to the Cubs.

Lynn allowed eight hits, half of which went for extra bases. He also walked two and struck out six. Anthony Rizzo did a lot of the damage, hitting a solo home run in the third and knocking in two runs with a double in the fifth. Lynn's ERA moves up to 3.82 with a 1.27 WHIP and a 42/10 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings. He'll try to rebound against the Indians in Cleveland in his next start.
May 6 - 11:22 PM

Jon Lester picked up his second win of the season on Wednesday, allowing four runs (one earned) in seven innings against the Cardinals.

One of the unearned runs was Lester's fault, as he made a fielding error in the second inning that led to a run. Addison Russell committed the other error in the sixth that sparked a two-out, two-run rally for the Cardinals. Lester otherwise was decent, giving up seven hits and two walks while striking out six. With a few good starts in a row, it looks like Lester has settled down. His ERA is down to 4.04 with a 1.32 WHIP and a 34/8 K/BB ratio in 35 2/3 innings. The Mets await him in a home start next.
