Phillies RHP prospect Tyler Viza spanned seven scoreless innings Monday in a win for Double-A Reading.

Viza scattered two hits and a pair of walks while finishing with five strikeouts. 64 of the right-hander's 92 pitches went for strikes. The 21-year-old is now 4-3 with a 3.67 ERA in nine starts for the Fightin Phils with 38 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings of work. Viza began the year in High-A Clearwater but was called up after going 6-2 with a 2.54 ERA with a 55/8 K/BB in his first nine starts.

Athletics optioned C/1B Matt McBride to Triple-A Nashville.

The move clears a spot for Stephen Vogt's return. McBride is batting .231 (9-for-39) with three doubles and two RBI over 15 games with the A's this season. He should be back up again later this summer.

Dodgers OF prospect Johan Mieses launched a pair of home runs Monday in a win for High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Mieses drove in a career-high six runs as the Quakes cruised to a 12-1 victory over visiting Inland Empire. Monday marked his first career multi-homer game. The 21-year-old has hit safely in five of his last six games, batting .385 with 10 RBI during that span. Mieses carries a disappointing .228 average this year with 105 strikeouts in 325 at-bats but has made up for it with 16 home runs, which ranks second in the California League. He's also seventh in doubles with 23.

Athletics activated C/1B Stephen Vogt from the family medical leave list.

Vogt has been away from the team since Saturday. The A's optioned Matt McBride to Triple-A Nashville to clear a spot for his return.

The Cardinals will call up right-hander Sam Tuivailala from Triple-A Memphis to serve as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader agianst the Mets.

Tuivailala has made three appearances in the majors this season and owns a 5.45 ERA over 32 games in Triple-A. On the plus side, he has struck out 54 batters in 36 1/3 innings.

Cardinals placed RHP Trevor Rosenthal on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 25, with right shoulder inflammation.

Specifically, he's dealing with a rotator cuff injury. Rosenthal walked three batters in his most recent appearance on Friday and hasn't shown any signs of turning things around since being removed from the closer role. He owns an ugly 5.13 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over 40 appearances this season. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but he was already demoted to a lower-leverage role. The Cardinals figure to look to the trade market for bullpen help before August 1.

Cardinals recalled LHP Dean Kiekhefer from Triple-A Memphis.

He'll replace the injured Trevor Rosenthal (shoulder) on the active roster. Kiekhefer has posted a 5.73 ERA and 9/2 K/BB ratio over 11 innings at the major league level this season.

The Mets will call up left-hander Josh Smoker as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Smoker, 27, has posted a 4.73 ERA and 67/18 K/BB ratio in 45 2/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He'll be making his major league debut if he gets into a game.
