Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said after Friday's game that he isn't optimistic that Miguel Cabrera (calf) will be able to avoid the disabled list.

The All-Star slugger was forced to leave Friday's game against the Blue Jays after sustaining a left calf strain while running to second base in the fourth inning. He's set to undergo an MRI exam on Saturday, but it sounds as though the most logical scenario has him heading to the disabled list and returning after the All-Star break. The Tigers should have an update on his status after his MRI.

Jonny Gomes went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Phillies.

Gomes' second inning homer was the fourth he's hit this season. There's little fantasy value here, as he does not receive enough at-bats for relevance in even the deepest of leagues and he's currently hitting just .195/.292/.323.
Jul 3 - 10:33 PM

Julio Teheran pitched well on Friday, limiting the Phillies to just one run (none earned) on seven hits over seven innings.

Teheran was lit up for six runs by the Pirates in his last start, but he took Taylor Swift's advice and shook it off against the Phillies. While he did walk three (against four strikeouts) and serve up seven hits, the only run to score came home on a Cesar Hernandez single in the fifth inning. Teheran will carry a 4.60 ERA and 1.41 WHIP into a Wednesday afternoon road start against the Brewers next time he toes the rubber.
Jul 3 - 10:30 PM

Adam Morgan pitched well in Friday's loss to the Braves, tossing seven innings of two-run ball in the low-scoring defeat.

Morgan served up solo homers to Jonny Gomes and Juan Uribe to account for the entirety of the damage against him, but it was enough to hand him the loss. He also struck out five and walked two. This was just Morgan's second start of the season. In an interesting twist, all three runs he's allowed over his 12 2/3 innings have come on solo home runs. He'll take on the Dodgers next time he toes the rubber.
Jul 3 - 10:26 PM

Victor Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored on Friday as the Tigers topped the Blue Jays 8-6.

Since returning from the disabled list on June 19, his bat has certainly perked up, hitting .321 (18-for-56) with a homer and 10 RBI. With Miguel Cabrera leaving Friday's game with a calf injury, Martinez could be required to shoulder a large load in the Tigers' offense in the coming weeks.
Jul 3 - 10:21 PM

Joakim Soria worked a scoreless ninth inning on Friday to protect a two-run advantage against the Blue Jays.

Soria allowed just a single and struck out two during his inning of work. He has been a rock at the back of the Tigers' bullpen this season, compiling a 2.48 ERA and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 innings while converting 18 of his first 20 save chances.
Jul 3 - 10:17 PM

Anibal Sanchez came within five outs of his second career no-hitter on Friday, and ended up surrendering four runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings of work.

Sanchez struck out five and walked three on the night. He was absolutely dominant through the first seven frames, but walked Justin Smoak in the seventh inning then allowed a one-out single to Ezequiel Carrera. He was left in to face the next two hitters who also singled, before giving way to the Tigers' bullpen. The Jays ended up striking for six runs in the inning, included the three runners the bullpen inherited from Sanchez. He has now won each of his last four decisions and will look to extend that streak when he takes on the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday.
Jul 3 - 10:15 PM

Dioner Navarro went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a losing effort against the Tigers on Friday.

The Blue Jays had been no-hit through 7 1/3 innings in the contest before erupting for six runs in the eighth inning. Sadly, it was still not enough for the Jays to overcome the poor pitching from Drew Hutchison. Navarro is now hitting .235/.290/.358 with 11 RBI on the season.
