Yasiel Puig remained in the starting lineup Wednesday, but went 0-for-3 against the Cardinals.

Because he's a truck, Puig was able to stay in and finish Tuesday's game after his scary collision with Joc Pederson in right-center. He couldn't have been 100 percent physically tonight, either, but he's doing his best to play while banged up this year.

Yangervis Solarte went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead his club to a 6-5 win over the Mets on Wednesday.

His third-inning single to left drove in the game's first run. He laced a two-run double to right center field in the fifth inning. He also drew a walk in the contest. Solarte had a hot April but has hit the skids in May. Overall he has a .241 batting average with three home runs and 24 RBI in 166 at-bats.

Wil Myers went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs against the Mets on Wednesday.

His seventh-inning single plated Chase d'Arnaud and Matt Szczur to tie the game at 5-5. Myers also doubled in the game. He is batting .275/.319/.529 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 48 games.

Brand Hand escaped a bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning to earn a save versus the Mets on Wednesday.

After closer Brandon Maurer pitched a clean eighth inning, Hand was brought in to protect a one-run lead in the ninth. He promptly surrendered a single, a walk and another single to load the bases with nobody out. He was able to punch out the next two batters before getting Juan Lagares to fly out to end the game and notch his first save of the season. It is possible this game indicates the Padres have promoted Hand into the closer role to replace Maurer. Today's results were a mixed bag for Hand. He was able to close out the game without allowing a run but pushed everything to the breaking point in the process. Hand has a 1.73 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 26 innings compared to Maurer's 6.50 ERA. Much of that disparity is explained by Maurer's .400 BABIP compared to Hand's .222 BABIP.

Adam Frazier went 2-for-2 with a homer and four walks as the Pirates beat the Braves 12-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

That sure is a nice game. Frazier joins J.D. Martinez as the only players this year with a homer and four walks in a game (Martinez actually had two homers in his). George Springer was the lone player to do it last year. Frazier is now batting .370 in his 92 at-bats. He doesn't have the home run or steal ability to be a major asset in mixed leagues, but he seems poised to remain a fine leadoff man for the Pirates.
May 25 - 12:33 AM

Trevor Williams pitched five-plus innings and yielded three runs Wednesday against the Braves.

All three runs came in the sixth after Williams gave up three straight singles to open the frame and was pulled. The Pirates seem pretty content with mediocrity lately, so Williams, who has given up 13 earned runs over 18 2/3 innings in his four starts, will probably get additional opportunities.
May 25 - 12:30 AM

Julio Teheran allowed three unearned runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Teheran couldn't bail out his defense after Jace Peterson's error with one out in the second, but he was strong over the rest of the outing, giving up just two hits over the other five innings. He lowered his ERA from 5.47 to 4.88.
May 25 - 12:27 AM

Michael Conforto continued to rake as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and two walks in Wednesday's loss to the Padres.

He delivered a run-scoring single in the fourth inning that gave the Mets a 5-1 lead that would soon be blown by their pitching staff. Conforto began the season without an everyday starting role but has forced himself into the lineup by batting .341/.437/.712 with 13 homers, 35 runs scored and 32 RBI in 41 games. He hasn't shown any signs of cooling off any time soon.
