Rockies recalled RHP Jeff Hoffman from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Hoffman will make a spot start Monday in Philadelphia. He was solid in a spot start earlier this month, allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings at Coors Field versus the Dodgers. The righty isn't a great streaming option, though.

Rockies optioned OF Raimel Tapia to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Tapia was hitless in 12 at-bats in his brief time with the big club. He'll return to a .400/.434/.583 batting line at Albuquerque.
May 22 - 4:37 PM

Greg Bird (ankle) took some dry swings Monday.

He had been slated to hit off a tee and take soft-toss, but he'll now do that Tuesday instead. Bird also resumed running recently, as well. He'll need a rehab assignment before being activated but is making nice progress.
May 22 - 4:26 PM

Denard Span is not in the Giants' lineup Monday.

He's just getting a breather. Gorkys Hernandez is in center field and Joe Panik is leading off.
May 22 - 4:22 PM

Ian Desmond is not in the Rockies' lineup Monday.

He's just getting a day off. Gerardo Parra is in left field and Mark Reynolds is at first base.
May 22 - 4:19 PM

Indians sent RHP Carlos Frias outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Frias had been designated for assignment, but he cleared waivers and has accepted an outright assignment to remain in the organization. He's posted a 9.00 ERA through 12 appearances in Triple-A this season.

Brandon Finnegan (trapezius) will throw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.

It will be his first time throwing off the bump since he strained his left trapezius in his third start of the season. Obviously he has a ways to go, but Finnegan is projected to rejoin the Reds' rotation sometime in the June 19-24 range assuming all goes well with his rehab.
May 22 - 3:50 PM

Ryan Flaherty could be given a platelet-rich plasma injection in his ailing right shoulder.

The Orioles are still trying to determine whether the strain Flaherty is dealing with is more in his lat or his rotator cuff. Either way, he'll be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks if he receives the injection and in all likelihood longer than that.
