Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Thursday's loss to the Braves.

After the Braves worked out to a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, Grandal got his crew right back into it with a two-run home run off Mike Foltynewicz. He has now gone deep in two of his last three games. Overall, Grandal is slashing .266/.318/.482 with 13 homers and 39 RBI across 274 at-bats.

Corey Seager went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Braves.

The double was Seager's 24th of the season. He currently has a little six-game hitting streak going and has swatted two doubles and two home runs in that space. For the season as a whole, the shortstop is slashing .300/.396/.514 with 15 homers, 49 RBI and 61 runs scored in 87 games.

Michael Foltynewicz allowed three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.

Folty struck out five and walked two on the evening. Two of the three runs on his line came when he coughed up a two-run homer to Yasmani Grandal in the sixth inning. Up next on the docket, a road start against the Diamondbacks. Foltynewicz will bring a 3.87 ERA and 1.39 WHIP to bear in that contest.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered six runs on nine hits over four innings in Thursday's loss to the Braves.

The Dodgers have looked like an unstoppable freight train this season, but that train slowed for at least one night. A three-run fourth inning knocked McCarthy out of the game, with the key blow coming in the form of a two-run homer by Kurt Suzuki. McCarthy struck out five and walked one in the dismal showing. He will try for better times in a home start against the Twins next time he takes to the mound. The veteran right-hander will carry a 3.84 ERA and 1.23 WHIP into that one.

Brandon Phillips left Thursday's game against the Dodgers with right hamstring tightness.

Johan Camargo replaced Phillips at second base with Dansby Swanson taking Camargo's place at shortstop. Phillips went 1-for-3 with a triple before exiting in the sixth inning. The 36-year-old seems to get hurt all the time but his injuries are always minor. Consider him day-to-day.

Eric Hosmer went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored as the Royals bombarded the Tigers 16-4 on Thursday.

Hosmer got all of a solo homer in the third inning, taking Tigers starter Michael Fulmer out for a 444-foot blast. It was perhaps a metaphor for the game itself, as the Royals pounded Fulmer and company at every turn. Hosmer has five multi-hit games in his last nine contests to raise his season line to .315/.372/.493 with 14 homers, 46 RBI and 55 runs scored overall.
Jul 21 - 12:17 AM

Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored in a win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Moss smacked a two-run double in the third inning and capped the scoring with a two-RBI single in the eighth, contributing four of the Royals' 16 runs on the night. It's been a big few days for the beleaguered 33-year-old, who has a pair of doubles, a homer and six RBI in the last two games. It's been a rare highlight of what's been a difficult year for Moss, who's hitting just .205/.273/.410 in 63 games overall.

According to LaVelle E. Neal of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins "continue to monitor the market" for Sonny Gray.

Add another team to Gray's growing list of suitors. The Twins are finalizing a trade for Braves lefty Jaime Garcia but apparently that won't stop them from pursuing Gray. Minnesota is clearly all-in but with so many other teams in the running, acquiring Gray is probably a long shot.
