Garrett Richards allowed a season-high five runs over six-plus innings in Friday's 12-5 win over the Red Sox.

Back in the place where he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee last August, Richards wasn't particularly sharp, as he gave up nine hits and two walks while hitting a batter. He was pulled with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Fortunately for him, he got plenty of run support. Oddly, Richards struck out just one of the 29 batters he faced Friday. He hasn't exactly looked like the ace he was prior to his knee surgery, but he still owns a quality 2.98 ERA through his first seven starts this season.

Rick Porcello was tagged for seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Friday.

It was his shortest outing of the season. Porcello gave up two runs over the first four innings before coming unglued in the fifth, which ended up being a nine-run inning for the Angels. The final run was charged to him after he was pulled from the ballgame. His ERA jumped from 4.26 to 5.07 with the clunker. He'll try to wipe the slate clean with a start against the Twins on the road next week.

Chris Iannetta connected for a three-run homer and drew two walks in Friday's blowout win over the Red Sox.

His three-run blast was the big blow in a nine-run fifth inning for the Angels. Iannetta got off to a miserable start this season, but he has shown signs of life in recent days by going 8-for-18 (.444) with two home runs, two doubles, and seven RBI over his last five games.

Mike Trout went 3-for-6 with an RBI single, a run scored, and a stolen base Friday against the Red Sox.

Trout was initially ruled out while trying to steal third base in the top of the fifth inning, but the call was overturned after an instant replay review revealed his nifty slide to avoid the tag. He already has eight stolen bases through 42 games this season after swiping 16 all of last year. The 23-year-old has three straight multi-hit games, which has pulled his batting average up to .303 on the year.

Albert Pujols (hand) went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in his return to the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

Pujols sat out Thursday after being hit in the left hand by a pitch on Wednesday, but he thinks he can play through it. The 35-year-old is batting .235/.290/.436 with eight home runs and 16 RBI through 39 games this season.

Rusney Castillo went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored in his season debut Friday against the Angels.

Red Sox fans were happy to see Castillo, but he heard some boo-birds after dropping a routine fly ball during a nine-run fifth inning. It was that kind of night in Boston. With his power/speed potential, the 27-year-old has the ability to help spark Boston's sputtering offense. He needs to be owned in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A New Orleans.

He'll function as an extra reliever in the Marlins bullpen while they attempt to sort out their rotation in the wake of Mat Latos and Henderson Alvarez heading to the disabled list. The 28-year-old owns a 3.15 ERA and 22/4 K/BB ratio over 20 innings out of the bullpen at Triple-A New Orleans this year.
May 23 - 12:09 AM

Marlins recalled RHP Andre Rienzo from Triple-A New Orleans.

The 26-year-old has worked exclusively as a starter at Triple-A New Orleans this season, posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 34/15 K/BB ratio across 40 innings. It's unclear if he'll slide into one of the two vacant rotation spots, or function out of the bullpen for the Marlins.
