A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Giants.

Ramos needed just nine pitches to dispatch of the Giants in the ninth. The save was his 11th of the season. Ramos owns a 1.26 ERA and 0.76 WHIP through 35 2/3 innings this season.

Danny Espinosa doubled twice with an RBI and two runs scored in a 3-for-5 effort as the Nationals topped the Braves 6-1 on Tuesday.

Espinosa sparked a four-run first inning with an RBI double. He later scored on a Wilson Ramos single. He singled to lead off the third inning and eventually scored following A.J. Pierzynski's throwing error. Espinosa had been slumping, batting .107 (3-for-28) since June 20. He's batting .259/.336/.438 overall with eight home runs, 23 RBI, and 37 runs scored.

Ryan Vogelsong allowed four runs over six innings in a loss to the Marlins on Tuesday.

Vogelsong surrendered two home runs among his seven hits allowed, and he also walked three in the game. The right-hander struck out four in the start. Vogelsong fell to an even 6-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 14 starts. He'll next take on the Nationals on Sunday.

Juan Uribe homered in the ninth inning to prevent the Braves from suffering a shutout loss to the Nationals on Tuesday.

The Braves entered the ninth inning down 6-0, but Uribe at least saved his team the indignity of a shutout, launching a solo home run to left field off of former Brave David Carpenter. Uribe has homered twice in his last three games, but has mostly struggled this season. Including his time with the Dodgers, he has five home runs, 16 RBI, and a .279/.333/.397 triple-slash line.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) could still be activated on Friday even after sitting out Tuesday's rehab game because of fatigue.

"I guess the running we've done the last couple of days has kind of worn him out," Girardi said Tuesday. "And it's not only in the one leg, it's in both legs. So we'll give him a day off today and hopefully he's back in there tomorrow." Ellsbury went 0-for-3 in his first rehab contest on Monday but needs to play at least a game or two in center field before being activated.

Shelby Miller was ineffective in a loss to the Nationals on Tuesday, serving up five runs (four earned) over five innings.

Miller did strike out a season-high 10 batters, but allowed eight hits and three walks. The Nats scored four of their five runs in the first inning, and tacked on that fifth run in the third inning thanks to an A.J. Pierzynski throwing error. Miller has only twice in 16 starts allowed four-plus runs, but both have occurred in June. He still owns an outstanding 2.20 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP and an 80/32 K/BB ratio over 102 1/3 innings. Miller will face a low-scoring Phillies lineup at home his next turn through the rotation.
Jun 30 - 10:34 PM

Mat Latos allowed three runs -- two earned -- over six innings in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Latos gave up six hits, including a home run, while striking out four. The win moved him to 3-5 with a still-unsightly 5.27 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Latos will look to make it two in a row Sunday against the Cubs.
Jun 30 - 10:34 PM

Jordan Zimmermann again held the opposition scoreless, this time silencing the Braves' bats in 7 2/3 innings of work to earn a win on Tuesday.

Zimmermann tossed eight scoreless innings in his last start and hasn't allowed a run since the sixth inning on June 17 against the Rays. On Tuesday, he scattered six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Zimmermann may be starting to catch his stride, sitting on a 3.16 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and a 69/19 K/BB ratio in 99 2/3 innings. He'll try to keep it going in a home start versus the Giants next.
