Todd Frazier went 2-for-4 with a double on Wednesday night as the White Sox lost to their crosstown rivals.

The multiple hits were a rarity for Frazier this season. He is batting only .215 but has 29 home runs to go with 58 runs and 67 RBI. He has added eight sneaky stolen bases as well.

Sean Manaea struck out nine batters and gave up three runs on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings to take a no-decision in the Athletics' 6-4 win over the Rangers on Wednesday.

His record holds at 3-5 with a 4.57 ERA. He has struck out 75 batters while issuing only 20 free passes in 86 2/3 innings. The rookie left-hander won't pitch again until next Wednesday against the Angels in Anaheim.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said that Tyler Duffey has not been taken off his scheduled Monday start.

Duffey was eviscerated to the tune of five runs on eight hits over 1 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Braves. Predictably, Molitor wasn't exactly jumping up-and-down at the prospect of handing the ball back to him for Monday's start against the Indians, but he did offer a half-hearted vote of confidence. "Right now he's scheduled to start Monday," Molitor said. "That's about all I can say about that right now." The 25-year-old right-hander holds a 6.12 ERA for the season as a whole.

Ryan Madson pitched a shaky ninth inning but earned a save despite giving up a run on Wednesday.

He has 22 saves but has also blown six already. At 7.36 K/9 Madson does not have the premium strikeout rate that is the hallmark of reliable closers. He has a 3.89 ERA in 44 innings and is a trade candidate this week. His owners may want to handcuff Ryan Dull quickly.
Jul 28 - 12:03 AM

Yu Darvish held the Athletics to two runs on four hits in six innings and settled for a no-decision on Wednesday.

He struck out six batters and didn't issue any free passes. It was only his sixth start of the injury-plagued season, and the third since coming off the disabled list. He has missed a lot of bats, whiffing 45 batters in 32 innings. His ERA sits at 3.09 as he gets ready to face the Orioles on Tuesday in the first of two starts next week.

Raul Mondesi went 2-for-4 and drove home four runs on Wednesday, leading the Royals to a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the Angels.

On two similar plays in the seventh and eighth innings, Mondesi reached on infield singles that each plated two runs. The first of which tied the game at 3-3 and rattled Angels starter Matt Shoemaker, while the latter increased the Royals advantage to 7-3 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He could be worth a look as a middle infield option in deeper mixed leagues now that he's in line for everyday at-bats for the Royals.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said that Luis Valbuena (hamstring) is not likely for Friday's game against the Tigers.

This echoes what Hinch was saying prior to Wednesday's game with the Yankees. The Astros have a scheduled day off on Thursday. Valbuena actually might have been sat on Friday even if he was healthy, as the Tigers will be tossing out left-hander Matt Boyd and Valbuena is slugging just .400 against southpaws (as compared to .479 vs right-handed pitchers). Hinch has not ruled out playing Valbuena in one or both of the final two games of the weekend series.
Jul 27 - 11:52 PM

Danny Duffy logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits over his six-plus innings of work.

The southpaw walked two and punched out five on the evening. After keeping the Angels off the scoreboard through the first four innings, the Angels scratched out single runs in each of the next three frames. Duffy has been a tremendous addition to the Royals rotation this season, compiling a 3.22 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 110/22 K/BB ratio over 100 2/3 innings. He'll take on the Rays in Tampa Bay his next time out on Monday.
