ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Jets are expected to sign WR Jeremy Kerley to a four-year contract extension on Tuesday.

The timing is somewhat odd as the Jets just acquired Percy Harvin and Kerley is mired in an underwhelming season, but the fourth-year slot man is in the final year of his rookie contract. The extension almost certainly won't include any guaranteed money beyond 2015, and should be coming at a team-friendly rate. The Jets will have each of Kerley, Harvin and Eric Decker signed through 2018 once Kerley's extension becomes official.

The Broncos promoted RB Kapri Bibbs from the practice squad before he was drawing interest from the Bills.

Bibbs' promotion raised eyebrows since the Broncos already have Montee Ball, C.J. Anderson, Juwan Thompson and Ronnie Hillman on the 53-man roster, but they didn't want to lose Bibbs to Buffalo. An undrafted rookie out of Colorado State, Bibbs is a power back at 5-foot-9, 212 pounds with 4.67 wheels. He's unlikely to get work outside special teams on Sundays.

Bills placed RB C.J. Spiller (broken collarbone) on injured reserve/designated to return.

Spiller can resume practicing in six weeks, but won't be eligible for game action until Week 16. There's obviously a (strong?) chance the Bills are already eliminated from playoff contention by then, but they were running out of time to use their I.R./return spot. There's really no downside to stashing Spiller in the hope that he can return to a team that will be in the thick of the playoff race with two weeks to go. Spiller remains safely droppable in all re-draft leagues.

49ers re-signed QB Josh Johnson and released S Raymond Ventrone.

This is San Francisco's weekly move. Johnson is the No. 3 quarterback.
Oct 21 - 1:25 PM

Bills signed RB Phillip Tanner.

With C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson both injured, the Bills need a caddie behind Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon. A fourth-year undrafted free agent who spent 2011-13 in Dallas, Tanner has averaged 2.7 yards on 56 career carries. Even in the deepest of leagues, Tanner is a pure desperation add with almost no shot at paying off.

Free agent Terrelle Pryor is part of a large group working out for the Giants Tuesday.

It's unclear if the Giants are kicking the tires on Pryor as a quarterback or wide receiver. He's also had workouts with the Bengals and Bucs over the last month without getting signed.

Coach Mike Tomlin said ILB Ryan Shazier (knee) is "extremely close" to returning.

Shazier has been out since spraining an MCL in Week 3. The first-round rookie's return will give a much-needed speed and talent infusion to the Steelers' linebacking corps. Shazier had 17 tackles, one pass breakup and one tackle for a loss in the first two weeks.

Eagles C Jason Kelce (sports hernia surgery) is practicing Tuesday.

Kelce was originally targeting Week 10 for his return, but appears to be ahead of schedule. PFF's No. 1 center from a year ago will do wonders to stabilize an offensive line that is finally getting healthier. LG Evan Mathis (knee) is reportedly doing well and could be back by Week 10.
