Hanley Ramirez left Monday's game versus the Rays in the first inning with an apparent left arm/shoulder injury.

Ramirez crashed into the side wall while trying to chase down a flyball. He immediately clutched his left arm after banging his shoulder pretty hard. It certainly looked like something that could keep the slugger out for a while, but we should know more later Monday. Ramirez is off to a .283/.340/.609 start this season and trails only Nelson Cruz with his 10 homers.

Shannon Drayer of MyNorthwest.com reports that Chris Taylor is expected to "get a good opportunity" at shortstop with the Mariners.

It's no surprise, as Brad Miller is hitting just .250/.301/.382 and has struggled in the field. Taylor held his own during his time in the majors last season and was hitting .313/.385/.475 with two homers and six steals at Tacoma this season before being promoted on Monday. He figures to see the lion's share of playing time at shortstop for a while.

A.J. Griffin (elbow) is close to beginning a rehab assignment.

Griffin is a tad behind fellow Tommy John rehabber Jarrod Parker, but his recovery is also moving along nicely. The righty threw another simulated game over the weekend and is nearly ready to test things out in real game action. He'll likely need all 30 of his allotted rehab days.
May 4 - 6:40 PM

Mariners designated LHP Mike Kickham for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Joe Beimel. Kickham has a 7.29 ERA and has walked a whopping 28 batters over 21 innings at Triple-A Tacoma this season.
May 4 - 6:37 PM

Nate Freiman (back) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

It's not clear how many rehab games he'll need, but Freiman isn't a given to be added to be big league roster once ready. He's missed the last two months with a lumbar muscle strain.
May 4 - 6:36 PM

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will face hitters on May 11.

He'll throw two more bullpen sessions prior to that. Doolittle's recovery from a slight tear in his rotator cuff is coming along nicely and he could conceivably rejoin the Athletics' bullpen later this month. He figures to be eased back into closing duties.
May 4 - 6:34 PM

An MRI on Eric O'Flaherty's left shoulder showed only inflammation.

He'll be shut down until he regains all of the range of motion in his shoulder, but the good news is he's not dealing with any structural damage. O'Flaherty holds an 11.57 ERA and 2.29 WHIP over seven innings this season.
May 4 - 6:32 PM

Mariners purchased the contract of LHP Joe Beimel from Triple-A Tacoma.

He was summoned after allowing just one baserunner and striking out five over 3 2/3 frames at Tacoma. Beimel will be used in a lefty specialist role.
