Mike Leake struggled again Friday, allowing five runs over seven innings in a loss to the Nationals.

Leake gave up four runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run homer by Danny Espinosa. He struck out two and walked one in the loss. Signed to a five-year, $80 million deal over the winter, Leake is 0-3 with a disappointing 5.83 ERA through five starts. He’ll try to get in the win column next week against the Phillies at home.

Michael Taylor hit a leadoff homer off Mike Leake on Friday against the Cardinals.

It was his third home run of the season and his second leadoff shot. The blast ended a 22-inning scoreless streak for Washington. Taylor has struggled to take advantage of an opportunity in center field with Ben Revere sidelined, batting just .195/.232/.338 over 19 games. Revere just began a minor league rehab assignment and should be back with the Nationals in a few days.
Apr 30 - 12:14 AM

Matt Adams went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday’s loss to the Nationals.

Adams did most of the heavy lifting for the Cardinals’ offense on Friday, with an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run blast in the eighth inning. Despite his best efforts, St. Louis ended up falling one run short. Adams has mostly struggled in sporadic playing time this season, batting .238/.289/.429 over 22 games. He’s no longer on the radar in mixed fantasy leagues.

Ian Desmond went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead RBI double in Friday’s 4-2 win over the Angels.

Desmond’s hot hitting continues. The 30-year-old batted just .109 through his first 12 games this season, but he’s hitting .394 (13-for-33) with three home runs, three doubles, and nine RBI over his last 10 games. He has also drawn six walks in that time. Those fantasy owners who were patient are being rewarded.
Apr 29 - 11:42 PM

Shawn Tolleson fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning Friday against the Angels on Friday for his eighth save.

Tolleson whiffed two batters in the frame. The 28-year-old gave up five runs in a disaster outing back on April 6, so he still has an ugly 6.00 ERA, but he has allowed just one run over his last nine appearances.
Apr 29 - 11:41 PM

Colby Lewis tossed seven innings and allowed two runs as part of a 4-2 win over the Angels on Friday.

Some uncharacteristic success against the Angels. Lewis didn’t strike out anyone, but he didn’t walk anyone either while working around nine hits. The veteran right-hander has gone at least six innings in all five of his starts this season and owns a fine 3.19 ERA, but he has allowed seven home runs in just 31 innings. It’s worth keeping in mind with a tough assignment against the Blue Jays next week in Toronto.
Apr 29 - 11:41 PM

Hector Santiago was tagged for four runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Friday.

It was the first time this season that Santiago failed to complete six innings. He gave up eight hits in all (including a solo homer to Ryan Rua) while walking one. After striking out 27 batters over his first 26 2/3 innings of work this season, Santiago struck out just one of the 24 batters he faced on Friday. He’ll bring a 3.34 ERA into a start against the Brewers next week.
Apr 29 - 11:40 PM

Ryan Rua connected for his first home run of the season in Friday’s win over the Angels.

It was a solo shot against Hector Santiago in the fifth inning. Rua has seen most of his playing time against lefties this season and has delivered by batting .455 (7-for-15). This role doesn’t mean much for his fantasy value, but he’s a useful piece for Texas.
