Chris Narveson (finger) is scheduled to face live hitters on Friday.

It will come after another successful bullpen session on Tuesday. If Friday's session goes well, Narveson will begin a rehab assignment early next week. "The finger felt good. Just kind of taking it day by day and see how it goes Friday against hitters," Narveson said. "You’re just trying to prepare yourself and get your body ready to pitch again. I think you expect yourself to hit the ground running once you come back."

The Blue Jays are considering calling up pitching prospect Sean Nolin to start on Friday against the Orioles.

Chad Jenkins is probably still the favorite to get the ball, but he'll be available out of the bullpen over the next few days. Ranked by Baseball America before the season as the club's 19th-best prospect, Nolan holds a 1.17 ERA while striking out a batter per inning this year at Double-A New Hampshire. The 23-year-old has made just six starts above A-ball.

Hector Santiago will get the start Wednesday in place of the injured Chris Sale (shoulder).

Santiago will be starting on short rest, though he lasted just 3 1/3 innings and 80 pitches in his last outing. It could be the left-hander's last start for a while, as he's an option to be bumped from the rotation when John Danks returns.

Chris Sale has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start against the Red Sox due to mild tendinitis in his left posterior shoulder.

It's obviously a tough break for Sale's fantasy owners, but the good news is that the move is viewed as precautionary and he's expected to be ready to start next Tuesday. Hector Santiago will get the ball Wednesday in Sale's place. He'll be pitching on three days' rest.

Blaine Boyer has agreed to a contract with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Central League.

Boyer opted out of his minor league contract with the Royals over the weekend after he learned that he could get a more lucrative deal overseas. The righty hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.

Santiago Casilla will have the cyst on his right knee examined by a specialist on Wednesday.

Casilla has dealt with the cyst since last season, and a brace that he had been wearing wasn't working. He'll receive another opinion on Wednesday to see if there's another way to combat the issue.

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times speculates that Joe Blanton could lose his rotation spot when Jered Weaver returns from the disabled list.

Weaver will make what could be his final extended spring training appearance on Wednesday, which is the same day Blanton is scheduled to start. It doesn't necessarily mean Blanton is the most vulnerable, but it would hardly be a surprise if he's given the boot considering his 0-7 record, 6.62 ERA and 1.97 WHIP. Jerome Williams is the other candidate to lose his spot, but he's out-pitched Blanton by a wide margin this season.
