Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Marlins.

It was his sixth home run of the season and his first since May 17. Granderson is tied for fifth in the National League with 26 walks, so he has done a decent job getting on base out of the leadoff spot for New York, but he's hitting just .237 with a .385 slugging percentage.

Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Royals topped the Cubs 8-4 on Friday afternoon in Chicago.

His RBI double in the eighth inning plated Mike Moustakas, breaking a 4-4 tie and proving to be the difference maker in the ballgame. He has been a force in the middle of the Royals lineup this season, slashing .310/.362/.433 with 20 RBI.
May 29 - 9:39 PM

Edinson Volquez racked up nine strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Friday.

The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits and a walk on the afternoon, and left in line for a victory, though his bullpen was unable to hold onto his lead. He has been a tremendous addition to the Royals rotation, posting a 2.95 ERA and 48/21 K/BB ratio over his 61 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column on Thursday when he does battle against the Indians.
May 29 - 9:36 PM

Addison Russell blasted his fourth home run of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday.

His solo shot off Kelvin Herrera tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning, but wound up being the extent of the Cubs offense. He also doubled in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-4. Russell is now hitting .260/.305/.455 with four homers and 14 RBI in his limited time in the big leagues.
May 29 - 9:33 PM

Jake Arrieta surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

Arrieta racked up five strikeouts on the afternoon without issuing a walk. Most of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Alcides Escobar, Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez each blasting solo home runs. He'll carry a 3.18 ERA and 67/14 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's start against the Marlins in Miami.

Avisail Garcia (knee) expects to return to the White Sox lineup on Saturday.

He hasn't played since aggravating his knee injury during Monday's game. It's the type of injury that isn't serious enough to land him on the disabled list, but could continue to crop up here and there throughout the grind of the MLB season.
May 29 - 9:21 PM

Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will be used out of the Rangers bullpen once he returns from the disabled list.

The Rangers have had issues recently with the backend of their rotation, but it doesn't appear that Detwiler will be the savior for the group. He is expected to rejoin the team soon.

Erik Cordier has elected free agency.

Cordier cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Giants, but he has opted to explore the open market rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento. The right-hander holds a 1.50, 1.00 WHIP and 20/8 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in the minor leagues this season.
