Braves sent RHP David Carpenter outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Carpenter passed through waivers unclaimed and it appears that he'll stick around and continue to serve as bullpen depth for the Braves rather than declaring free agency. He has appeared in just four games with the Braves this season, posting 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 3 2/3 innings.

Cubs sent OF Mike Baxter outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Baxter was designated for assignment earlier in the week to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. He'll continue to provide outfield depth in the minor leagues.

Dodgers sent RHP Chin-Hui Tsao outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The 34-year-oldwas designated for assignment on Thursday. He passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as organizational bullpen depth for the Dodgers.

Desmond Jennings (knee) began a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Friday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

He also drew a pair of walks in the contest. Jennings is working his way back from arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to rejoin the Rays in early August. If all goes well in his first few rehab games, expect to see him with the big league club next weekend.

Twins activated 3B Trevor Plouffe from the paternity leave list.

Plouffe had been away from the club since Wednesday to witness the birth of his child. He's enjoying a solid season, hitting .257/.316/.456 with 14 homers and 55 RBI in 95 games.

Scott Van Slyke (neck) returned to the Dodgers starting lineup on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double in a victory over the Angels.

Van Slyke hurt his neck in a cap ride in New York on Saturday and had only appeared as a pinch hitter since. He should be fine moving forward.

Edwin Encarnacion (finger) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in his return to action on Friday.

The slugger was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a jammed finger and sat out Thursday as well. He didn't seem to have any issues on Friday though and should be fine moving forward. With the two-hit effort, he's now hitting .241/.338/.455 with 19 homers and 56 RBI on the season.

Zack Greinke pitched eight innings of two-run ball to beat the Angels on Friday.

Greinke gave up runs for the second straight outing, but it wasn't really so bad. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out eight in improving to 10-2. His ERA jumped from 1.37 to 1.41.
