Major League Baseball has suspended Jose Mijares for 50 games for a drug of abuse.

Mijares was released by the Reds on March 23 and now may struggle to find another opportunity with an MLB-affiliated club. The 30-year-old left-hander had a 5.06 ERA in 5 1/3 innings this spring in the Cactus League.

Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer and walked in the Blue Jays' 10-6 victory over the Phillies on Tuesday.

It's the first spring homer for EE, who entered the day just 1-for-15 after missing a couple of weeks with back soreness. In part because of the back, it looks like he'll DH a lot more than he plays first base, at least in the early going. Justin Smoak and Danny Valencia figure to share first-base duties, with Smoak playing versus righties.

Aaron Sanchez gave up five runs and walked six in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday in a non-decision versus the Phillies.

It's the first time Sanchez's old control woes have surfaced this spring. He walked 57 batters in 101 1/3 innings in the minors last year, but after joining the Blue Jays pen, he walked just nine in 33 innings, partly because he was able to simplify his arsenal. This spring, he had walked four in 18 1/3 innings, which boded well for his chances of being a decent starting pitcher. We're still a bit skeptical that'll happen, but he's talented enough to prove us wrong.

Shawn Tolleson (forearm) threw a perfect inning in a Triple-A game on Tuesday afternoon.

Tolleson needed only seven pitches to get through the frame. He's been slowed in Rangers camp by some forearm tightness, but an MRI taken last week showed no structural damage. The 27-year-old is expected to begin the season the disabled list, but he should be activated by the middle of April.

Robert Osuna bounced back from Saturday's poor showing to strike out the side in his inning Tuesday against the Phillies.

Osuna could have put his roster spot in jeopardy with a poor final week, but the Blue Jays clearly want to bring him north, even though he's a 20-year-old who has never pitched higher than A ball. He has a 12/3 K/BB ratio in 11 innings this spring.

Mark Hendrickson has retired from baseball.

Hendrickson was released by the Orioles in mid-March and apparently didn't find much interest on the open market (or didn't want to purse any of the other opportunities presented to him). The 40-year-old left-hander spent the 2014 season with the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League.

Grady Sizemore got the start in right field Tuesday and went 3-for-4 against the Blue Jays.

The Phillies didn't initially include Sizemore when talking about the right-field mix to replace Domonic Brown, mostly because he doesn't have the arm for the spot, but it looks like they might have softened on their stance, probably after taking a harder look at their other options. Certainly, the decision to shove Ben Revere to left was bad news for Sizemore -- he appeared in line to get plenty of time there before Odubel Herrera impressed in center -- and Sizemore will need to get starts in right every once in a while if he's going to have much of a role for the Phillies. He's just a fringe NL-only guy at the moment.

Melvin Upton is hoping to shed the protective walking boot from his left foot Friday.

Upton has been in the walking boot for the last five weeks. He has a checkup with a doctor Friday. The center fielder isn't expected to be ready to play in games for the Braves until sometime in May.
