Marlins released LHP Sean Burnett.

Burnett has logged just 6 1/3 innings at the major league level since the beginning of the 2014 season and he was working to a 5.49 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 19 2/3 innings this year with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate. This may very well be the end of the road for the veteran left-hander, who turns 36 years old in September.

Marlins released RHP Severino Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was sporting a rough 5.61 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 33 2/3 innings of relief this season at Triple-A New Orleans. The 25-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2016.

Joey Lucchesi (hip) will return to the Padres' starting rotation on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Lucchesi worked four scoreless innings in his lone rehab start last Thursday at High-A Lake Elsinore, striking out six batters and touching 96 mph with his fastball. The rookie left-hander had a strong 3.23 ERA, 1.225 WHIP, and 48/15 K/BB ratio through his first 47 1/3 major league innings this season with San Diego when he landed on the disabled list May 15 due to a right hip strain. Get him active for this return start versus the A's.

Robbie Grossman (illness) hit a two-run triple in his return to the Twins' starting lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Grossman exited Sunday's series finale against the Indians after getting overheated, but he looked cool and hydrated while racing around the bases in the eighth inning Tuesday night at Target Field. It was only his second career triple. The 28-year-old is slashing .234/.320/.333 in 58 games this season for Minnesota.

Angels activated INF Kaleb Cowart from the 10-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Cowart missed around two weeks of action with a left ankle sprain. The 26-year-old utility infielder is a .197/.256/.319 career hitter in the major leagues.

Angels optioned RHP Jake Jewell to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Jewell made two relief appearances during his short stay at the major league level, allowing one run over 1 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander will probably get another look by the Angels later this summer.

J.T. Riddle went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 loss at San Francisco.

The light-hitting middle infielder has shown some signs of life lately, hitting safely in four of the past six while raising his average from .208 to .236 since June 13. But he isn't a good source of power and he remains useful only in the deepest of NL-only formats if you're desperate for middle infielder assistance.
Jun 20 - 3:32 AM

Alen Hanson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 win against the Marlins.

Hanson has done a decent job hitting 13-for-39 (.333) with six doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBI since returning from the 10-day disabled list. The presence of a healthy Joe Panik blocks Hanson's path to regular playing time, but if he continues to hit the team will find ways to get him into the lineup on a semi-regular basis.
