Bryan Morris has opted to undergo back surgery.

Morris told reporters last week that surgery was probably the only option to repair his lumbar disk herniation, and further testing and exams proved that to be true. Marlins manager Don Mattingly said he's hopeful the right-hander can return this season.

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers have discussed keeping Jurickson Profar around after Rougned Odor's suspension ends.

Hanser Alberto would also remain on the active roster and the Rangers would go with a seven-man bullpen. Profar is 6-for-18 (.333) since his callup on Friday and he was slashing 284/.356/.426 with five homers and four steals in 189 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Round Rock. The former top prospect might have finally found some footing at the major league level, though it's still pretty loose.

Caleb Joseph underwent surgery for his testicular injury late Monday night.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter wouldn't get into details, which is probably for the best. Joseph has already been placed on the 15-day disabled list. It's not exactly clear how long he will be out.

Justin Turner will get the night off Tuesday.

Howie Kendrick is starting at third base and Chase Utley is at second versus Cubs ace Jake Arrieta.

Trayce Thompson (back) is in the Dodgers' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Cubs.

He will start in left field and bat fifth versus Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta. Thompson missed a couple of games in a row with some minor soreness in his back.

Athletics recalled LHP Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Nashville.

Surkamp will return to the A's starting rotation on Tuesday night against the Twins after spending the last couple of weeks in the minors. He had a 6.55 ERA over his first five starts this season for Oakland and should go on being ignored in standard fantasy formats even versus the light-hitting Minnesota lineup.
May 31 - 4:15 PM

Athletics optioned RHP Zach Neal to Triple-A Nashville.

Neal was pounded for seven runs over four innings in his first major league start last Wednesday against the Mariners. Eric Surkamp will take the vacant rotation spot.
May 31 - 4:13 PM

James Loney has officially been added to the Mets' 25-man roster.

Loney was acquired from the Padres on Saturday for cash and will be thrown into the Mets' starting lineup Tuesday night against the White Sox. He should start regularly at first base against right-handed pitching, at least until Lucas Duda (back) returns. Loney was hitting the ball well at Triple-A El Paso before the trade and is worthy of consideration in deeper fantasy formats now that he's in a good position for playing time.
