ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports RHP Mark Lowe will sign with the Mariners.

Mar 30 - 5:57 PM

David Paulino (elbow) will begin a throwing program in the next day or two.

He's been sidelined by a bone bruise in his right elbow. Paulino will remain at the Astros' spring training facility in Florida during his rehab. The 23-year-old made his big league debut last season, allowing four runs over seven innings as a September call-up.

Collin McHugh (arm) will open the season on the 10-day disabled list.

The rest of the team already left for Houston, but McHugh will stay behind and pitch a simulated game on Saturday. He's expected to throw 75 pitches or five innings—whichever one comes first. After that, McHugh will likely make one minor league rehab start before joining the Astros' rotation sometime in mid-April. The 29-year-old recorded a 4.34 ERA over 33 starts for Houston in 2016.

Carter Capps (elbow) will pitch a couple of simulated innings next week.

Capps struck out two in a scoreless inning Thursday against the Rockies, topping out at 95 mph. If his simulated work goes well next week, he'll begin a rehab assignment shortly after. He's on track to return to the Padres by mid-April.

Chris Gimenez has made the Twins' Opening Day roster.

He beat out John Ryan Murphy for the backup catcher job behind starter Jason Castro. The well-traveled 34-year-old has caught for five clubs since 2011. Gimenez isn't known for his offense. He's just a .218 lifetime hitter at the major league level.
Mar 30 - 5:40 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Neil Ramirez is expected to exercise his opt-out clause on Friday if he doesn't make the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Ramirez has seen mixed results this spring, compiling a 3.72 ERA over 10 relief outings. As is, he's probably on the outside looking in for a roster spot. The 27-year-old made 18 appearances for three different clubs last season. He's developing a reputation as a journeyman.

Indians optioned SS Erik Gonzalez to Triple-A Columbus.

Gonzalez injured his hand last week but returned to Cactus League play on Tuesday. He hit a respectable .311 this spring but struck out in 36.5 percent of his at-bats. A little more seasoning in the minors could do him some good.
Mar 30 - 5:28 PM

Indians optioned 3B Giovanny Urshela to Triple-A Columbus.

He was competing for a backup role at third base but lost out to Yandy Diaz. Urshela did as well as could be expected this spring, hitting .268 across 41 Cactus League at-bats with two homers and seven RBI. The 25-year-old made 81 appearances for the Tribe in 2015 but spent all of last year in the minors.
