Denard Span (abdomen) is back in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Span missed the previous two contests after being lifted from Thursday's game when he felt soreness in the area where he had core muscle surgery. It's doubtful that he's 100 percent, but it appears the outfielder will gut it out.

Kurt Suzuki is not in the Twins' lineup Sunday.

It's just a day off. Chris Herrmann is at catcher Sunday in Suzuki's place.

Aramis Ramirez (hamstring) is back in the Brewers' lineup Sunday.

Ramirez missed a couple games with a sore hamstring, but he's ready to roll now. The third baseman has struggled overall this season but has been heating up of late, sporting a .375/.423/.708 batting line with a couple homers over his last eight games.

Lorenzo Cain will begin serving a two-game suspension on Sunday after dropping his appeal.

It's a little surprising that he'd drop it now and miss a game versus the division-rival Tigers, but obviously the Royals determined it was best to get it out of the way now. Cain will return to action on Wednesday against the Indians.

Greg Holland (pectoral) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Holland got through a simulated game on Saturday with no issues. As long as he bounces back OK, he'll resume his closing duties on Tuesday, pushing Wade Davis back to a setup role. "I felt really good," Holland said. "It was exciting. I was able to execute most of my pitches. With that layoff, without really getting off the mound and facing hitters, it was very encouraging."

Jeremy Guthrie will start for the Royals on Sunday versus the Tigers.

Jason Vargas had been listed, but the club evidently decided to make a switch. Vargas will now get the ball on Tuesday against the Indians instead.
May 3 - 10:55 AM

Samuel Deduno will start on Wednesday against the Rangers.

Deduno earned another outing after tossing four innings of one-run ball on Friday versus the Mariners. "I thought he competed very well," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "I think he had quite a few first-pitch strikes. I think his fastball was in the zone, which helped his breaking ball." Deduno could hold down the fifth spot in the rotation until Brett Oberholtzer (blister) is ready.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus plans to begin using Angel Nesbitt in more high-leverage situations.

Nesbitt has been a pleasant surprise for Detroit so far in middle relief, holding a 3.12 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings. Ausmus plans to use him in more of a setup role soon. "If I were to guess, I would say that at some point, he's going to be able to pitch in those types of situations, whether it's the seventh or eighth," Ausmus said.
