Cole Hamels improved to 9-1 after allowing two runs over seven innings against the Angels on Monday.

Hamels gave up just three hits on the night, one of them an RBI single from Martin Maldonado in the second inning. The veteran southpaw struck out three batters and walked a pair en route to his first loss since July 20. Hamels has had good results recently, but he’s struck out just 65 batters through 105 1/3 innings this season. His fantasy upside isn’t what it once was.

Tyler Skaggs was handed the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings Monday against the Rangers.

Most of his issues were in the third inning, as Skaggs gave up an RBI double to Shin-Soo Choo and a three-run homer to Adrian Beltre. The southpaw fanned four and walked one in the loss. Skaggs has had two good starts and two shaky ones since coming off the disabled list earlier this month. He’ll try again for his first victory since April 22 when he squares off against the Astros in a tough matchup this weekend.

Alex Claudio allowed one run while converting a four-out save Monday against the Angels.

Claudio entered the game in the eighth after Jose Leclerc walked the bases loaded, but he was able to induce a grounder from Jefry Marte to escape the jam. The southpaw then allowed the first two batters to reach in the bottom of the ninth. Mike Trout brought one of them home on a single, but Claudio was able to get Albert Pujols on a ground out to end the ballgame. The southpaw is an unlikely choice for a closer, but he’s 7-for-9 in save chances to go along with a 2.55 ERA and 48/14 K/BB ratio over 67 innings.

Adrian Beltre homered and drove in four runs in Monday’s 5-3 win over the Angels.

Beltre drove in a run with a ground out in the first inning before slugging a three-run blast in his next at-bat in the third. The veteran third baseman hasn’t slowed down since reaching 3,000 career hits on July 30. He’s batting .311 (23-for-74) with five homers and 21 RBI over 20 games in that time.

Mike Trout went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base Monday against the Rangers.

His run-scoring single in the ninth inning snapped an 0-for-11 hitless streak at the plate. He’s human, but that doesn’t happen very often with Trout. The stud outfielder is batting .332/.457/.682 with 26 homers, 60 RBI, 14 steals, and 62 runs scored over 80 games this season.

Andrelton Simmons went 1-for-2 with two walks and stolen base Monday versus the Rangers.

Simmons just keeps on keeping on. He now has 13 homers and 18 steals to go along with a strong .293/.348/.451 batting line. Throw in his excellent defense at shortstop and you have someone with a sneaky case for AL MVP consideration.

Chris Stratton fired six scoreless frames in Monday’s 2-0 victory over the Brewers.

Stratton limited the Brewers to four hits (all of them singles) while walking two batters and striking out one. He now owns a 12 2/3 innings scoreless streak, the longest by a Giants rookie pitcher since Chris Heston in 2015. While he’s one a nice roll, his upcoming schedule could be a challenge. He gets the Diamondbacks in Arizona next before a home start against the Cardinals, but then he takes on the Rockies in Coors Field. Be careful in fantasy leagues.

Zach Davies yielded two runs over six innings in a loss to the Giants on Monday.

Davies struck out five and walked a pair in the loss. Both runs scored in the fourth inning, first with an RBI double from Brandon Crawford and a run-scoring ground out from Nick Hundley. Usually Davies is the beneficiary of generous run support, but he didn’t get anything on this night. He’ll try to get back in the win column with a tough assignment against the Dodgers next time out.
