Cowboys waived QB Jameill Showers.

An undrafted rookie out of UTEP, Showers made some noise early in training camp but struggled in the preseason. He is likely destined for the Cowboys' practice squad. Showers being cut likely means Dustin Vaughan's roster spot is safe.

The NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reported the Redskins plan to keep Robert Griffin III (concussion) on their 53-man roster.

The Washington Post also expects Griffin to stick on the team. The Redskins are taking a financial risk by retaining Griffin. His $16.155 million fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only, meaning he has to be able to pass a physical when the Redskins decide to release him next offseason. Griffin was examined by an independent neurologist late this week, but neither he nor the team have been given the results of that exam.

ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson said Eddie Royal (hip) appears to be making "significant progress" in his recovery.

The Bears have been guarding injury information like it is the secret ingredient in Coke, but it appears Royal will be good to go for Week 1. The situation is even murkier around Alshon Jeffery (calf). If Jeffery cannot play against the Packers, Royal would be a great DFS play.

Browns coach Mike Pettine said keeping WR Terrelle Pryor on the roster required "a leap of faith."

It is a leap the Browns should take. Pryor's switch from quarterback to wide receiver has been slowed by a hamstring injury which kept him out most of the exhibition season, but healthy or not Pryor was never going to become a tactician this preseason. The Browns brought him into camp because he is an elite athlete at a position where Cleveland has few. That is the same reason they should keep him on the final roster.

The Giants' official website predicts Odell Beckham will see a decrease in his numbers from last season.

Beckham put up a 91-1,205-12 line in just 12 games last season. That per-game pace was always unsustainable, but John Schmeelk and Lance Medow believe Beckham's raw numbers will decrease as well despite getting in a full season. Both writers cite the presence of a healthy Victor Cruz and Rashad Jennings, two things which cannot be taken for granted. Beckham is not going to see 11 targets a game again, but he is still an elite fantasy wide receiver.

The Nashville Tennessean highlighted creating turnovers as a key for the Titans defense as the 2015 season approaches.

Creating turnovers is critical for any NFL defense, but the Tennessean notes that the Titans had a minus-10 turnover differential last season, good for fifth-worst in the NFL. Tennessee created a turnover in all four preseason games and will look to continue taking the ball from opposing offenses in Week 1 when they face rookie quarterback Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

DE Chris Smith was the only projected defensive starter to play in Jacksonville's final preseason tune up.

Coach Gus Bradley told Jaguars.com, "Resting starters was not only about first-team health, but keeping starters fresh and preparing for the September 13 regular-season opener against Carolina." The Jaguars are obviously content with their first-team defense and will hope to see notable improvement from a season ago. The Jaguars D/ST is a group to avoid in fantasy leagues this season.

The Charlotte Observer highlighted sack totals for Luke Kuechly and Kony Ealy as "key numbers" for the Panthers team in 2015.

Carolina was in the middle of the pack in terms of sacks last season, clocking in at 13th in NFL with 40 total quarterback takedowns. DC Sean McDermott's defense will look to keep the pressure rolling in 2015 behind stud LB Luke Kuechly and emerging second-year DE Kony Ealy. The Carolina D/ST will be a solid Week 1 option when they face Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
