Terrelle Pryor wasn't targeted in Thursday's preseason finale, but rushed twice for nine yards.
Limited by a hamstring issue for the past month, Pryor was making his preseason debut. The Browns have insisted all summer that Pryor is a strict wideout, but both of his touches came as the quarterback on read options. Pryor did do some blocking as a wideout, and even served as the punt protector. Although Pryor has barely practiced this summer, and tonight's work came with deep reserves, he's looking like a good bet for the Browns' 53-man roster. A team with this little talent can't afford to let a blue-chip athlete like Pryor go. Pryor is currently off the re-draft radar, but that could change over the season's first few games.
LeGarrette Blount had another poor game Thursday against the Giants, tallying just 24 yards on 10 carries.
The fact that Blount played at all was a bit strange. Some might see it as a red flag, though we’re chalking it up to the usual Bill Belichick shenanigans. Blount had a dismal preseason, averaging 2.27 yards per carry on 30 rushing attempts. The one positive is that the Patriots are starting to use him more in the passing game, though one of his drops Thursday led to an interception. Blount is suspended for Week 1 but will be a back-end RB2 when he returns.
James White totaled 36 rushing yards on 10 carries in Thursday’s preseason loss to the Giants.
White also snagged two catches for 21 yards. He juked a few defenders on his way to a nice nine-yard run late in the first half, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. White had a chance to secure a role for himself on third downs at the start of camp but was outplayed by Dion Lewis and Brandon Bolden. It's safe to ignore White in fantasy.
Cardinals ILB Sean Weatherspoon recorded three tackles in his preseason debut.
He played the entire first half. Weatherspoon missed all of 2014 with an Achilles injury and sat out the first three preseason games with a hamstring injury. He made several stops in the running game and held up Kapri Bibbs so a teammate could strip the ball in the first quarter, though the play was eventually called back on review. If he can stay healthy, Weatherspoon will be a big addition to the Cardinals' defense, but staying healthy has always been the problem.
Falcons SLB Brooks Reed is will miss six weeks after undergoing groin surgery.
A second opinion on Reed's long-troublesome groin determined he needed the operation. Reed could be a candidate for the Falcons' injured reserve-designated for return list. Kroy Biermann figures to open the season as Atlanta's "Otto" strong-side linebacker. It's going to be another long year for the Falcons' defense.
Falcons rookie WR Justin Hardy caught two passes for 16 yards in Thursday night's preseason finale.
Quiet this preseason, Hardy finally made his presence felt on a 70-yard punt return in Thursday night's game. He was the 107th overall pick in May's draft. Hardy will likely open the season no higher than Atlanta's No. 4 receiver behind Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Leonard Hankerson.
Chris Johnson rushed 11 times for 45 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards in the Cardinals' fourth preseason game.
He ripped off several chain-moving runs against the Broncos' second- and third-team defenses, showing nice cutback vision and acceleration. Johnson put a move on a defender and gained 10 yards on a swing pass early in the game, and busted through the line on a draw play to pick up 16 yards on a 3rd-and-11. Johnson should be expected to look good against second-team talent, but his acceleration appeared to be intact after an offseason away from football. Johnson should put pressure on Andre Ellington and David Johnson for snaps.
Colts rookie RB Josh Robinson (concussion) is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Bills.
Vick Ballard (hamstring) and Dan Herron (shoulder) both dropped out of Thursday night's preseason finale, perhaps paving the way for Robinson to open the season as Frank Gore's primary backup. Ballard will likely be a part of Saturday's final cuts. The extent of Herron's shoulder injury is unknown.
