Jose Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Indians.

Abreu took Josh Tomlin deep with one out in the sixth inning for his second home run of the spring. He has been an incredibly consistent hitter since coming over from Cuba, boasting a .299/.360/.515 career triple-slash in three seasons.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is considering a platoon at second base.

Kolten Wong was expected to open 2017 as the Cardinals' everyday second baseman but he's had a poor spring, hitting just .190 through 42 Grapefruit League at-bats. "I think that's something we are going to have to consider," said Matheny. The Cardinals' skipper also praised Greg Garcia, calling his performance this spring "unbelievable." Utility man Jedd Gyorko could also cut into Wong's time at second.

Carlos Santana went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the White Sox.

Santana made Zack Burdi pay with one on and one out in the fifth inning, taking the pitcher deep for his first tater of the spring. This past campaign was perhaps Santana's best in the majors on the whole, as the veteran slugger slashed .259/.366/.498 with 34 home runs and 87 RBI across 582 at-bats. Both the home run and RBI marks were the best of his career. Santana has hit double-digit home runs in each of his six full seasons in the bigs.

Josh Tomlin could not keep the ball in the park in Saturday's Cactus League dance with the White Sox, yielding four home runs and five total runs over 6 1/3 innings.

All five of the runs on Tomlin's line touched home via the long ball, with Jacob May, Cody Asche and Jose Abreu bopping solo taters in the first, second and sixth innings and Evereth Cabrera polishing off matters with a two-run dinger in the seventh. While Tomlin has surrendered at least two runs in each of his last three spring starts, he is already assured of a spot at the back of the rotation. Saturday's was not the most encouraging of outings.

Dylan Covey did not allow a run over 3 2/3 innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Indians.

Covey scattered three hits on the afternoon, striking out three and walking one along the way. The White Sox scooped him up with a Rule 5 pick in December. A strained oblique cost the 25-year-old right-hander the bulk of the 2016 campaign, but in six starts prior to sustaining that injury, he held a 1.84 ERA with Double-A Midland. If he is unable to crack the Opening Day roster as a long arm, he will start the upcoming season in the minors.

Salvador Perez went 1-for-3 with a single in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Brewers.

The Royals failed to pick up an extra-base hit in this one, at least until Raul Mondesi ended it all with a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth. Perez's single was one of just five total hits they managed against Milwaukee pitching. While the backstop suffered a hyperextended elbow during the World Baseball Classic, the minor injury should not have an impact on his Opening Day status. For fantasy purposes, Perez offers a dependable bat at a thin position.

Domingo Santana went 1-for-3 with a double in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Royals.

The double was Santana's second of the spring. He has also bopped three homers in 48 at-bats. This past season, he managed a .256 average to pair with 11 homers and 32 RBI across 246 at-bats. He is a palatable sleeper in deeper fantasy formats.
Mar 25 - 6:53 PM

Ian Kennedy pitched well in Saturday's Cactus League showdown with the Brewers, fanning seven over six scoreless innings.

A nice, crisp tune-up start for Kennedy, who allowed all of three hits on the afternoon. Countering the seven strikeouts, he walked two. Kennedy has yet to allow a run over his 17 1/3 innings of spring action. The veteran right-hander is set to follow Danny Duffy in the Opening Day rotation.
