Garrett Richards allowed five runs on eight hits over seven innings against the A's in a no-decision Tuesday.

Richards ran into trouble during a three-run third in which he may have been lucky to escape without further damage, and then sailed until he gave up a couple cheapies in his last frame of work on a walk, two singles and a wild pitch. Richards, now 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, will get to wield a bat in his next appearance as the Angels square off in Washington against the Nationals on Monday.

Kole Calhoun left Tuesday's game against the A's in the 11th inning after rolling his ankle.

Calhoun grounded out to second and caught his foot in the dirt when he tried to stop his momentum after crossing first base. In clear agony, but never hitting the ground, Calhoun didn't put any weight on his ankle as he was helped off the field. We should know more about his status on Wednesday. Hopefully he doesn't require a DL stint, because Calhoun has collected three straight multi-hit games and blasted a homer tonight while finishing 3-for-6.

LaTroy Hawkins earned his third save of the season Tuesday in the Rockies' 3-2 win over the Padres.

So far, so good for Colorado's 41-year-old offseason import. Since allowing a run in his Rockies' debut, Hawkins has strung together four consecutive scoreless appearances. He's 3-for-3 in save conversions to go with a 1.93 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He's outpitching Rex Brothers right now.

One night after suffering an elbow contusion, Michael Cuddyer went 1-for-4 with a steal and a run scored in Tuesday's 3-2 win against the Padres.

With Justin Morneau getting the night off, Cuddyer was free to man first base, a slice of the defensive spectrum that his stomach can handle at this point. He was fortunate to escape Monday's warning track fiasco after slamming into the fence with all his weight falling backwards after getting crossed up on Alexi Amarista's triple. In the batter's box, on the other hand, Cuddyer still looks very much at home, slashing .340/.400/.585 in the early going.

Juan Nicasio surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Padres.

Nicasio struck out six in each of his first two outings and fell off to three tonight, but everything else was encouraging. He issued only one free pass. The right-hander has sandwiched two quality starts around last week's rough outing against the White Sox. Add it all up and he's 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through three outings. He’ll face off against the Phillies at home on Sunday.

Robbie Erlin fanned seven but lasted only 4 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Rockies.

He coughed up three runs on six hits and a walk. During Erlin's last frame, home plate umpire Jeff Nelson's strike zone drew the ire of San Diego hitting coach Phil Plantier, who was promptly kicked out of the game. Erlin, 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, has an impressive 14/1 K/BB rate over his first 11 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old southpaw faces Tim Lincecum and the Giants in San Diego on Sunday.

Mets manager Terry Collins said after Tuesday's game that Jenrry Mejia has "one hell of a blister."

Collins added that Mejia "tore it up completely" during Tuesday's start and that there is "concern" about the righty. That said, he also didn't rule out Mejia making his next start. The Mets are off Thursday, so the club could give Mejia an extra day of rest.

Although the Blue Jays are listing him as day-to-day, Adam Lind (back) admitted that it "would be a miracle" if he felt better Wednesday.

Lind was lifted from Tuesday's game with lower back tightness. It's sounding like an injury that could ultimately force him to the disabled list, but we'll just have to see how he recovers. At the very least, he figures to miss the next couple games.
