Shane Greene retired the Twins in order Wednesday for his 11th save.

It took Greene all of eight pitches to set aside Minnesota in the ninth inning. This was a much-needed bounce-back game for the 29-year-old, who allowed two runs in a blown save against Seattle in his last outing. Greene’s 4.03 ERA obviously isn’t ideal, though he does rank third in the American League with 11 saves.

Victor Martinez notched two hits Wednesday in the Tigers’ 4-1 win over Minnesota.

Martinez drove in the game’s first run with a first-inning sac fly, then singled and scored on Niko Goodrum’s two-run homer in the fourth. He singled again in the sixth but was ultimately stranded at third base. The 39-year-old has hit safely in six of his last seven games while raising his average from .222 to a slightly more respectable .243.

Michael Fulmer scattered four hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in the Tigers’ win over Minnesota.

He fanned five and walked three over a season-high 113 pitches. Fulmer gave up two hits and a run in the first inning but settled down after that, allowing just two more hits the rest of the way. Wednesday’s victory was Fulmer’s first since April 7. He’ll try to make it two straight when he takes the mound Tuesday against the Angels.

Jean Segura (shoulder) is batting first and playing shortstop on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Segura jammed is shoulder when he slid into Jonathan Lucroy's leg while scoring the go-ahead run in an extra-innings victory over the A's on Tuesday, but he's apparently feeling well enough to play against the Athletics. In 46 games this year, Segura is hitting .315 with 11 steals, three homers and 33 RBI.

Franklin Barreto is starting at second base and hitting ninth on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Barreto will start at second base, so Jed Lowrie will be the DH against Seattle on Wednesday night. The 22-year-old infielder was called up on Wednesday to take the roster spot of Khris Davis (groin) who was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Barreto will strike out, but the ball can jump off his bat, and there's some power in is right-handed bat as well.
May 23 - 6:00 PM

Dustin Pedroia (knee) will play seven innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Pedroia (knew) will then have the opportunity to play the next day if the knee holds up; an 11:05 tilt on Thursday. The Red Sox reportedly want to see Pedroia play in back-to-back games before recalling him to Boston. If he can go on Wednesday and Thursday, he'll fulfill that, and he could be activated by the end of the weekend.
May 23 - 5:45 PM

Austin Barnes is hitting second and catching against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Barnes gets the start while Yasmani Grandal gets a night off against Colorado. Barnes has struggled to hit for average or power this year (.222 average, .306 slugging percentage), but he continues to show an impressive eye at the plate with a .404 on-base percentage in his 72 at-bats.
May 23 - 5:40 PM

Michael Wacha gave up four hits and two runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Royals.

Wacha recorded six strikeouts and didn’t walk anyone. Seventy of his season-high 102 pitches went for strikes. The right-hander served up a solo blast to Salvador Perez in the second inning, then gave up another run in the sixth on Whit Merrifield’s sac fly to center. Wednesday marked Wacha’s third straight quality start. He’ll try to keep that streak going in his next outing Tuesday against Milwaukee.
