Scott Kazmir (hip) has begun pitching simulated games in Arizona.

Kazmir was pulled off a minor league rehab assignment in early July due to renewed concerns over his left arm and hip. The 33-year-old has not thrown a pitch in a major league game this season and that doesn't seem likely to change down the stretch, though he's apparently made some progress.

Rubby De La Rosa underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday.

Dr. James Andrews did the cutting. It's the second career Tommy John surgery for De La Rosa, who is likely to be sidelined through the entire 2018 season. He pitched just 7 2/3 innings for Arizona this year.

Brian Goodwin (groin) swung a bat Tuesday.

But he hasn't been cleared for full-intensity running and that remains the big rehab hurdle for Goodwin, who landed on the disabled list August 14 with a left groin strain. He'll be out for at least another week.

Dodgers recalled RHP Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stewart is set to make a spot start Tuesday night against the Pirates. He's posted good numbers this season in the majors, but the 25-year-old right-hander will probably move to a long relief role for the stretch run and isn't worth adding in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Ben Zobrist has been scratched from the Cubs' starting lineup Tuesday.

Zobrist had trouble securing a rental car to drive from Nashville to Cincinnati, where the Cubs open a series against the Reds on Tuesday night. Ian Happ is now starting at second base and batting fifth versus right-hander Homer Bailey. Zobrist should be available off the bench once he arrives.

Lance McCullers (back) threw another bullpen session on Tuesday.

That could be the final step before he is cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. McCullers made it through a three-inning simulated game on Sunday, firing off 45 pitches without experiencing any discomfort in his back. He's on track to return to the Astros' rotation around early September.

Bubba Starling has suffered a new oblique injury at Triple-A Omaha and is done for the season.

That will conclude a highly disappointing 2017 for the former No. 5 overall draft pick, who batted just .248/.303/.381 with seven home runs and five stolen bases in 80 games this season at Triple-A Omaha. Starling, who turned 25 years old earlier this month, has yet to appear in a major league game.
Aug 22 - 5:42 PM

Kevin Siegrist (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with High-A Palm Beach.

Siegrist will probably need two or three rehab outings in the minors before getting clearance to return to the Cardinals' bullpen. The left-handed setup man has been on the disabled list since August 6, retroactive to August 4, with forearm tendinitis.
