Blue Jays prospect Sean Nolin is expected to start Friday against the Orioles.

A sixth-round pick in 2010, Nolin has a 1.17 ERA while striking out a batter per inning this year at Double-A New Hampshire. Chad Jenkins had also been a candidate, but will likely be sent down in a corresponding move. Nolin has made just six starts above the High-A level and is not a recommended streaming option in fantasy leagues.

Athletics activated SS Hiroyuki Nakajima from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Nakajima is still working his way back from a hamstring injury he suffered late in spring training. His 20-day rehab window expired on Wednesday, so the Athletics are keeping him in the minors.

Mariners purchased the contract of C Jesus Sucre from Triple-A Tacoma.

Sucre, 25, has a .302/.371/.321 batting line in 14 games as a part-time catcher at the Triple-A level. Mike Zunino still needs development time, so the Mariners are promoting Sucre to replace the struggling Jesus Montero on their active roster.

Mariners optioned C Jesus Montero to Triple-A Tacoma.

Montero has been a major disappointment this season, batting just .208/.264/.327 with three home runs and nine RBI in 29 games. The Tacoma News Tribune reports Montero "may no longer viewed as a catcher at the big league level" and is expected play first base and DH in the minors. Mike Zunino will remain at Triple-A for now, while Jesus Sucre will replace him on the active roster.

Royals prospect Yordano Ventura allowed seven runs (six earned runs) on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings in his start Wednesday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Ventura hadn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his previous eight starts, so it's the first time he's struggled this season. The 21-year-old top prospect has a 2.82 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and 12.1 K/9 over 45 innings at the Double-A level. Prior to Wednesday's outing, he had a a pair of 10-strikeout games and 32 total strikeouts in his last four starts.
May 23 - 11:59 AM

Orioles prospect outfielder Henry Urrutia is batting .333/.413/.542 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 25 games with Double-A Bowie.

Urrutia, 26, defected from Cuba last season but visa issues delayed him from making his debut until a month ago. Given his advanced age and track record, he likely isn't far off from a promotion to Triple-A Norfolk.

Orioles prospect Brandon Kline (ankle) has been placed on the disabled list with Low-A Delmarva.

Kline underwent surgery Thursday to repair a non-displaced ankle fracture and will be sidelined 6-8 weeks. A second-round pick in 2012, Kline had a 5.86 ERA in seven starts at the Orioles' Low-A affiliate.

Padres optioned RHP Burch Smith to Triple-A Tucson.

Smith was sent down after he lasted just one-plus inning in a loss Wednesday to the Cardinals. The 23-year-old struggled with an 18.41 ERA in his first three major league starts. Smith opened the season with Double-A San Antonio, but the Padres are hoping he can turn things around the Triple-A level.
