Cardinals pitching prospect Tim Cooney scattered four hits over nine shutout frames Tuesday for Triple-A Memphis.

It was the fourth complete game of Cooney's career and his second nine-inning shutout. 69 of his 108 pitches went for strikes. The 24-year-old is having a remarkable year. He leads the Pacific Coast League in WHIP (0.84) and ranks fifth in ERA (2.55). The 24-year-old struggled in his big league debut back in April (2 1/3 IP, 7 H, 3 ER) but he should get another chance before long.

Athletics activated LHP Drew Pomeranz from the 15-day disabled list.

Pomeranz was cleared to return after getting through a rehab appearance with no issues. The A's will use him in relief for now, though it's certainly possible that he'll get another shot to start at some point.

Cubs SS prospect Javier Baez cranked two homers Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Iowa.

He finished the night 4-for-5 with four RBI. Tuesday was Baez's 11th career four-RBI game, his eighth four-hit game and his eighth multi-homer game. He's hit .500 with eight RBI during his five-game hitting streak. Though he doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify, Baez would be sixth in the Pacific Coast League in OPS (.947), eighth in slugging (.550) and seventh in on base percentage (.397).

Salvador Perez (head) is not in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Perez passed concussion tests after leaving Tuesday's game following a foul tip to the mask, but he has a bit of a headache Wednesday. The Royals will hope he's ready to go on Thursday. Drew Butera is filling in behind the dish.

Brandon Crawford is not playing Wednesday due to some calf soreness.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy insisted that it's a minor issue. It sounds like Crawford will be back in there on Friday after Thursday's off day.

Hunter Pence is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a minor left wrist injury.

You always have to worry a bit when it's a wrist injury, but it seems the Giants are convinced this is a minor issue. The Giants are off Thursday, so they'll shoot for Pence to be back in there Friday.

Astros pitching prospect Vincent Velasquez lost a no-hitter in the seventh inning Tuesday in a win for Double-A Corpus Christi.
