Steve Delabar has signed a contract with Japan's Hiroshima Carp.
Delabar will head overseas after getting released by the Reds on Friday. The 32-year-old holds a 4.07 ERA over 190 relief appearances for three major league teams. He registered a 6.75 ERA in seven outings for the Reds this year.
Marlins signed RHP Jeremy Guthrie to a minor league contract.
He'll start out at Triple-A New Orleans and try to work his way up from there. Guthrie was in the Padres' system earlier this year but exercised his opt-out clause when he didn't get a call-up. The 37-year-old recorded a lousy 5.95 ERA in 30 outings (24 starts) for the Royals last season.
Clayton Kershaw was treated for minor back discomfort after pitching Sunday against the Pirates.
Kershaw endured his worst start of the season on Sunday but manager Dave Roberts insists his ineffectiveness had nothing to do with his ailing back. Roberts added that the injury has been an "off-and-on issue." Kershaw put in his usual post-start workout Monday morning and isn't expected to miss any time. He's in line to pitch Friday against the Rockies.
Red Sox optioned RHP William Cuevas to Triple-A Pawtucket.
He was optioned to make room for infielder Mike Miller. Cuevas allowed two hits and four walks over 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Texas this weekend. He'll probably make his way back to Boston later this season.
Red Sox purchased the contract of IF Mike Miller from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Who? Miller wasn't even in our database prior to Monday's call-up. The Red Sox are desperate to give Xander Bogaerts a day off and coudn't bring Deven Marrero back for another week after optioning him on Saturday. Miller has hit .251 this year with 10 RBI and seven steals in 46 games for Pawtucket. This is the 26-year-old's first stint in the major leagues.
Nationals recalled RHP Rafael Martin from Triple-A Syracuse.
Martin has had an uneventful year for Syracuse, contributing a lackluster 4.29 ERA over 29 relief appearances. With the Nationals expected to call up a starter for Tuesday's game against the Mets, Martin could be headed back to Syracuse after Monday's contest.
Reds recalled RHP Jumbo Diaz from Triple-A Louisville.
The Angels claimed J.C. Ramirez off waivers, opening up a roster spot for Diaz. The 32-year-old has done solid work as Louisville's closer, converting 11-of-12 saves with a pristine 0.75 ERA. Unfortunately that success has not carried over to the big leagues. He holds a disappointing 6.30 ERA in 11 games for the Reds this season.
Cubs optioned LHP Gerardo Concepcion to Triple-A Iowa.
The Cubs needed to clear a roster spot for veteran reliever Joel Peralta. Concepcion pitched reasonably well in his first big league stint, allowing one run with two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old began the year with Double-A Tennessee but earned a shot in the majors by posting an elite 1.29 ERA over 22 relief outings. He should be back in the north side of Chicago later this year.
