Panthers signed WR Stephen Hill to the practice squad.

It's a good landing spot for the ex-Jet, though going by the words of Hill's agent following his release, he likely thought he'd land on someone's 53-man roster. Instead, it's the next best thing, as the Panthers' receiver corps is perhaps the thinnest in the league. Stone-handed and prone to nicks and bruises, there's no guarantee Hill gets the call this season.

Chargers signed RB Marion Grice to the practice squad.

A sixth-round pick out of Arizona State, Grice was waived Monday. The Bolts are four deep at running back, but Grice will be the first man up if someone gets hurt.

Ex-Cardinals QB Max Hall was arrested Friday for "possession of stolen items and cocaine."

A 2010 undrafted free agent, Hall started three games his rookie year, but none after. He was most recently with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hall was allegedly found in a Best Buy parking lot with "several stolen items from Best Buy and a nearby Walmart." If his football career wasn't already over, it is now.

Bears re-signed CB Kelvin Hayden.

Hayden was waived at final cuts. He's taking the roster spot of WR Marquess Wilson (injured reserve/designated to return). If Hayden's active on game days, it will be as a special teamer.
Sep 2 - 4:46 PM

Bears placed WR Marquess Wilson (broken collarbone) on injured reserve/designated to return.

Wilson will be eligible to return in Week 10, as the Bears are on bye in Week 9. That would be a best-case scenario after Wilson was given a 12-14 week timeline upon going down on August 4. Wilson had been shaping up as an intriguing sleeper, but is unlikely to come into any re-draft value after the Bears signed Santonio Holmes to take his place behind Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall. Unless Holmes proves to have nothing left, Wilson will be returning as the No. 4 receiver.

Fourth-round rookie Devonta Freeman remains the No. 4 back on the Falcons' "unofficial" Week 1 depth chart.

Freeman rushed 32 times for 134 yards (4.18 YPC) and a touchdown in the preseason, adding 11 catches for an additional 146 yards. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 running back. In other words, his depth-chart placement is likely ceremonial. Jacquizz Rodgers has firmly established he's a poor NFL backup, while Antone Smith is a 29-year-old (this month) change-of-pace back. Freeman is the most sensible and highest-upside handcuff for Steven Jackson.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys are considering free agent DE Michael Sam for their practice squad.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sam "will be a Cowboy" as long as he passes his physical. As a 4-3 defense in desperate need of edge rushers, the Cowboys would be an excellent landing spot for Sam after he was a victim of the numbers game along the Rams' loaded line. It's almost beyond belief that Sam has yet to find a practice-squad spot after notching three preseason sacks in four games for the Rams.
Sep 2 - 4:27 PM

Lions re-signed DE Darryl Tapp.

Tapp was released at final cuts, but returns as a deep reserve/special teamer after the Lions placed rookie SLB Kyle Van Noy on injured reserve/designated to return.
