Angels optioned INF Kaleb Cowart to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Cowart is 1-for-6 with two strikeouts this season at the major league level. Jefry Marte is taking his spot.
Reds placed RHP Caleb Cotham on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.
Cotham got off to a great start this season, but he had been struggling since late April and holds a 7.40 ERA for the year. It's unclear how long he might be out.
Dustin Ackley will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Ackley suffered the torn labrum (and a shoulder dislocation) on a slide Sunday against the Rays. He'll finish up 2016 with a .148 batting average and .390 OPS in 28 games. The 28-year-old is a definite non-tender candidate.
Angels recalled INF Jefry Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Marte will start at third base and bat fifth for the Angels on Tuesday night with Yunel Escobar (wrist) still sidelined. Marte has a bit of pop, but he's not worth consideration in standard fantasy leagues.
Yunel Escobar (wrist) remains out Tuesday.
Escobar bruised his right wrist Sunday while diving for a ball and hasn't played since. He is still considered day-to-day. Jefry Marte will start at third base and bat fifth Tuesday night against the Tigers.
Stephen Piscotty (illness) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night.
Piscotty missed Monday's series opener at Milwaukee Park with food poisoning. He is starting in right field and batting cleanup in his return to action Tuesday versus Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta.
Reds activated RHP Jon Moscot from the 15-day disabled list.
Moscot will rejoin the Reds' starting rotation Tuesday night in Colorado after missing the last four weeks with a shoulder injury. He threw six scoreless innings in his final minor league rehab start, but the right-hander is a poor fantasy bet at Coors Field.
According to MLB.com's Mark Bowman, the Braves are finalizing a trade that will send veteran reliever Jason Grilli to the Blue Jays.
It sounds like the negotiations could be wrapped up at some point Tuesday night. Grilli was sporting a rough 5.29 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, and 23/13 K/BB ratio through 17 innings this season out of the Atlanta bullpen. This is his age-39 campaign. Atlanta will get minor league right-hander Sean Ratcliffe in return, per Robert Murray of BaseballEssential.com.
