Darin Ruf, who was a candidate to be recalled when Chase Utley was placed on the disabled list Friday, has been dealing with a sore hand at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

That could be the determining factor as to why Michael Martinez was recalled rather than Ruf. Through 42 games on the season, he's hitting .263/.341/.431 with five homers and 23 RBI at Triple-A. Once he's deemed fully healthy, he's likely see time with the Phillies at some point during the 2013 season.

Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee, groin) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga

Hairston initially landed on the disabled list with a left groin strain, then suffered a setback when injuring his knee during his recovery. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to rejoin the Dodgers before the end of the month.

Jeff Francis (groin) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

He'll now progress to an outing in extended spring training before he's re-evaulated. Even when he is cleared to return, his rotation spot may not be secure after posting a 6.00 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 31/14 K/BB ratio through his first eight starts. He shouldn't be a consideration in most fantasy leagues.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen session to determine whether he'll be available for Friday night's contest against the Giants.

Initially, it was feared that Betancourt would be headed for the disabled list after leaving Tuesday's game with a tight right groin, but he has made significant improvement in recent days. Even if he's unable to return on Friday, Betancourt should be available at some point over the weekend.

Josh Reddick (wrist) felt great after taking batting practice on the field before Friday's game, saying that his wrist wasn't an issue at all.

Reddick said he expects to play in rehab games with High-A Stockton on Monday, and with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. If all goes well, he could return to the A's lineup shortly afterwards.

Jeff Kobernus is noticeably absent from the starting lineup for Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, prompting speculation that he'll be recalled by the Nationals on Saturday.

The Nationals are currently carrying eight relievers and have only three healthy players on the bench, so they plan to demote a reliever after Friday's game. The 24-year-old Kobernus is hitting .333/.378/.420 with a homer, 20 RBI and 21 steals through his first 43 games at Syracuse, and could be worth a look for those in need of speed in deep NL-only formats.

Tommy Hanson is scheduled to throw 75 pitches Saturday in an extended spring training game.

Hanson has been away from the team since early May due to a death in the family. Since he's had such a long layoff, the assumption is that he'll make at least one more extended spring training start before rejoining the Angels. That means he won't be back until June 4 at the earliest. Hanson is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 17/9 K/BB ratio through his first 28 innings with the Angels.

Hanley Ramirez said Friday that he feels he's ready to return to the Dodgers' lineup with his hamstring as is.

Ramirez said that he's been trying to come back, but that the Dodgers won't let him yet. He progressed to running in the outfield prior to Tuesday's game, and the team wants to take every precaution not to rush him back and risk re-injury. He was initially given a 4-6 week timetable for his return, and even the early end of that projection doesn't have him returning until early June.
