Michael Wacha shut out the Rockies for seven innings, striking out seven, in a victory Friday.

Wacha is the fifth pitcher to reach 12 wins this season, but this the first time he's pitched at least seven scoreless innings in a start. Randy Choate and Seth Maness finished the six-hit shutout tonight.

Matt Carpenter had another strong game from the leadoff spot Friday, going 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and a walk against the Rockies.

With the way it's worked out the last two days, it looks like we'll be seeing Carpenter batting first and Kolten Wong hitting third for the foreseeable future. It should help the fantasy value of both. Wong went 2-fo-r5 with two runs scored and an RBI tonight.

Cubs acquired RHP Dan Haren and cash considerations from the Marlins for RHP Ivan Pineyro and INF Elliot Soto.

The veteran right-hander was enjoying a resurgence with the Marlins, registering a 3.42 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 88/25 K/BB ratio over 129 innings in his 21 starts. He brings another strong veteran presence to the Cubs rotation, and has proven to be a highly-capable performer in the postseason throughout the years.

Marlins acquired INF Elliot Soto and RHP Ivan Pineyro from the Cubs for RHP Dan Haren and cash considerations.

The 25-year-old infielder was hitting .275/.388/.314 with no homers and 18 RBI in 88 games at Double-A Tennessee. He'll provide organizational infield depth for the Marlins.

Marlins acquired RHP Ivan Pineyro and INF Elliot Soto from the Cubs for RHP Dan Haren and cash considerations.

The 23-year-old right-hander owns a 3.69 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 92/30 K/BB ratio over 107 1/3 innings at Double-A Tennessee this year. He's expected to report to Double-A and could get a chance to pitch for the big league club in September.

Mark Teixeira had a monster night Friday against the Rangers, going 3-for-6 with two home runs, six RBI, and two walks.

Batting right-handed, Teixeira took Carlos Rodon deep for a grand slam in the second inning before connecting for a two-run shot against Matt Albers from the left side in the fourth. It was the 14th time in his career that he homered from both sides of the plate in the same game, setting a new major league record. The veteran slugger has back-to-back multi-homer games and is now batting .269/.375/.585 with 28 home runs and 73 RBI on the year. It's been a remarkable resurgence.
Aug 1 - 1:47 AM

Nathan Eovaldi yielded three runs over 5 2/3 innings in Friday's 13-6 win over the White Sox.

It wasn't the sharpest outing from Eovaldi, as he allowed seven hits (including a two-run homer to Jose Abreu) and three walks while throwing 117 pitches. The Yankees would have liked to see him pitch deeper into the game, but he had the benefit of a ton of run support, so he improved to 11-2 on the year. The hard-throwing right-hander will bring a 4.30 ERA into a start against the Red Sox next week at home.
Aug 1 - 1:46 AM

Carlos Rodon was knocked around for eight runs over three-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Yankees.

It was the shortest start of his brief major league career. Rodon gave up a five-spot in the second inning, the big blow of which was a grand slam from Mark Teixeira. He finally got the hook in the fourth after throwing a wild pitch to score a run and walking Alex Rodriguez. The rookie southpaw gave up eight hits and four walks while also throwing three wild pitches. His ERA jumped from 4.09 to 4.84 in the loss. Inconsistency has been the name of the game for him lately, but he'll attempt to bounce back next week against the Rays.
