Padres activated RHP Ian Kennedy from the paternity leave list.

Kennedy welcomed a daughter on Friday and didn't wind up missing a start in the Padres' rotation. The 30-year-old righty owns a 4.44 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 94/30 K/BB ratio in 103 1/3 innings this season for the Padres.
Aug 4 - 5:35 PM

Padres optioned RHP Leonel Campos to Triple-A El Paso.

Campos gave the Padres a bit of bullpen depth while Ian Kennedy was away on paternity leave. The 28-year-old Campos owns a 5.63 ERA in eight career major league innings.
Aug 4 - 5:34 PM

Rangers purchased the contract of OF Ryan Strausborger from Triple-A Round Rock.

Strausborger is batting .278/.329/.438 with 10 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 86 games this season at the Triple-A level. He has the kind of dynamic skillset that is attractive to fantasy baseballers, but the 27-year-old outfielder probably won't play very much in Texas.
Aug 4 - 4:48 PM

Rangers optioned OF Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martin has batted just .220/.265/.314 in 309 plate appearances this season for the Rangers, who will hope that a short demotion to the minors gets him going like it did for second baseman Rougned Odor. Delino DeShields Jr. has been serving as Texas' starting center fielder.
Aug 4 - 4:45 PM

Jon Lester will make his next start Friday at home against the Giants.

Lester only pitched 1 2/3 innings of Monday's postponed game against the Pirates, so he'll move up a day in the rotation. Kyle Hendricks will start Saturday.
Aug 4 - 4:42 PM

Cubs activated LHP Tsuyoshi Wada from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Wada is recovered from the shoulder problems he began experiencing in late June, but there's no longer a spot for him in the Cubs' starting rotation. The 34-year-old left-hander owns a cool 3.73 ERA, 1.277 WHIP, and 31/11 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings (seven starts) this season with Chicago. He should get another look if there's an injury on the north side.
Aug 4 - 4:40 PM

Mariners recalled RHP Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma.

Guaipe will slide into a mid-relief role. He's allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings this season with Seattle.
Aug 4 - 4:36 PM

Kyle Schwarber is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

David Ross will catch Jake Arrieta and bat seventh Tuesday against Pirates left-hander J.A. Happ.
