Scott Rice will undergo season-ending elbow surgery Wednesday in New York.

Rice will have a bone spur removed and a nerve relocated, so he's looking at a four-month rehab process. The 32-year-old southpaw was used heavily by the Mets last season, but he struggled to the tune of a 5.93 ERA over 13 2/3 innings this season prior to being demoted to Triple-A last month.

Reds recalled RHP Curtis Partch from Triple-A Louisville.

Partch will replace the injured Logan Ondrusek (shoulder) on the active roster. Partch has tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings with the Reds this season and will operate in middle relief.
Jul 22 - 2:51 PM

Reds placed RHP Logan Ondrusek on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, with a strained right shoulder.

Curtis Partch will take his place in the Reds' bullpen. Ondrusek owns a 4.31 ERA and 29/13 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings this season.

Brad Mills is expected to be designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The move will clear a spot for top prospect Aaron Sanchez, who is expected to join the team's bullpen. Mills was rocked for eight runs over two innings Monday night against the Red Sox.

Mariners prospect outfielder Alex Jackson suffered a small fracture of the maxillary antrum (sinus area) on Monday when he struck in the face by a line drive during a Rookie-level Arizona League game.

Jackson, the No. 6 overall pick in June's First-Year Player Draft, suffered the injury when he slid while attempting to track down a fly ball in the right-center field gap. However, he lost the ball in the lights and it hit him in the left cheek. He was carted off the field, but never appeared to lose consciousness. No word yet on the timetable for his return.

Blue Jays optioned C Erik Kratz to Triple-A Buffalo.

The Blue Jays are expected to make multiple roster moves in advance of Tuesday's game. Kratz has hit .198 with three homers and a .572 OPS over 84 plate appearances with the Jays this season.

Blue Jays shortstop prospect Franklin Barreto went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base for short season-A Vancouver on Monday, raising his season line to .314/.390/.479.

Barreto has hits in 15 of his last 16 games, putting up a .385/.446/.646 line with six doubles, four triples, and one home run. He is an elite athlete with the potential to hit .280 with 10-plus home runs, 20-plus doubles, and 20-plus stolen bases, but may need to move to the outfield if he cannot improve his infield defense.
Jul 22 - 2:18 PM

Rangers third base prospect Ryan Rua went 3-for-4 with two home runs for Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

Rua has spent roughly one-third of his games in left field since being promoted to Triple-A, possibly as reaction to the Joey Gallo's breakout season. Rua has held his own, hitting .296/.348/.531 over 21 games in the Pacific Coast League since his promotion. Rua has not been able to replicate the 32 home runs he hit in 2013, but his combined line of .299/.369/.488 is better than his .247/.347/.525 line from 2013.
