Rangers placed INF/OF Joey Gallo on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Gallo suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture when he collided with teammate Matt Bush on Sunday afternoon. It sounds like the Rangers believe he will be ready for activation when first eligible on August 29. Phil Gosselin has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding roster move.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria hinted Tuesday that Matt Davidson (wrist) won't be back before September 1.

Davidson has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment, but the out-of-contention White Sox will bring him along slowly. He was placed on the disabled list August 8, retroactive to August 4, after suffering a deep right wrist contusion on a hit-by-pitch.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated Tuesday that Mike Leake could be skipped on his next turn through the rotation.

The right-hander is lined up to start Saturday against the Rays, but Matheny told reporters on Tuesday evening that there are other options. Leake has surrendered 22 runs -- 21 earned -- on 36 hits over his last four starts covering 18 1/3 innings. Pitching prospect Jack Flaherty, currently stationed at Triple-A Memphis, would be on regular rest for Saturday's game versus Tampa Bay.

Carson Smith (elbow, shoulder) is likely to remain with Triple-A Pawtucket through the end of their season.

Smith is only pitching every third day at the moment as he works his way back from major elbow and shoulder injuries, and he has a 7.71 ERA through six rehab appearances. Pawtucket's season ends September 4.

Scott Kazmir (hip) has begun pitching simulated games in Arizona.

Kazmir was pulled off a minor league rehab assignment in early July due to renewed concerns over his left arm and hip. The 33-year-old has not thrown a pitch in a major league game this season and that doesn't seem likely to change down the stretch, though he's apparently made some progress.
Aug 22 - 6:08 PM

Rubby De La Rosa underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday.

Dr. James Andrews did the cutting. It's the second career Tommy John surgery for De La Rosa, who is likely to be sidelined through the entire 2018 season. He pitched just 7 2/3 innings for Arizona this year.
Aug 22 - 6:04 PM

Brian Goodwin (groin) swung a bat Tuesday.

But he hasn't been cleared for full-intensity running and that remains the big rehab hurdle for Goodwin, who landed on the disabled list August 14 with a left groin strain. He'll be out for at least another week.
Aug 22 - 6:02 PM

Dodgers recalled RHP Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stewart is set to make a spot start Tuesday night against the Pirates. He's posted good numbers this season in the majors, but the 25-year-old right-hander will probably move to a long relief role for the stretch run and isn't worth adding in standard mixed fantasy leagues.
