Indians RHP prospect Adam Plutko retired the first 22 batters he faced Tuesday in a loss for Triple-A Columbus.

He lost his bid for a perfect game on an eighth-inning single by Norfolk second baseman Corban Joseph. Plutko finally got the hook after allowing two runs and three hits over 7 1/3 innings of work. The Clippers' offense let Plutko down by scoring once on only five hits. The 24-year-old has gone 2-4 with a 4.71 ERA in eight starts since getting called up from Double-A Akron earlier this season. Cleveland boasts one of the league's deepest starting rotations so it might be a while before Plutko gets an opportunity in the big leagues.

Gregory Polanco is out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Polanco went 4-for-5 and slugged his 13th home run of the season on Tuesday night against Seattle, but Sean Rodriguez will start in right field and bat seventh Wednesday versus Mariners lefty James Paxton.

Denard Span is just getting a day off Wednesday.

Span has battled a cold recently and is a bit worn out, but this is not an injury situation and he should be fine for Thursday's big series opener against the Nationals. Gregor Blanco is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Giants on Wednesday afternoon against Reds right-hander Dan Straily.

Rays OF prospect Justin Williams drove in a career-high five runs Tuesday in a win for Double-A Montgomery.

He homered and singled twice as part of a three-hit effort. Williams has been on a serious heater over his last seven games. He's provided 13 RBI in that span including eight in his last two contests. Williams earned a promotion last week after hitting .330 with 31 RBI in his first 51 games for High-A Charlotte. The 20-year-old began his career in the Diamondbacks' organization but was sent to Tampa Bay in 2014 as part of the Jeremy Hellickson trade.

Blue Jays RHP prospect Conner Greene provided seven shutout innings Tuesday in a win for Double-A New Hampshire.

He scattered four hits and pair of walks while matching a season-high with seven strikeouts. Greene endured a couple of rocky outings after getting called up from High-A Dunedin but he's settled down over his last three starts, allowing just three earned runs in his last 19 innings of work (1.42 ERA). Walks have been an issue for Greene this year. The 21-year-old has yielded at least two free passes in each of his last 10 starts.

Braves C prospect Brett Cumberland delivered a career-high six RBI Tuesday in a win for Rookie-level Danville.

He homered and doubled twice as part of a three-hit night. Cumberland now has five multi-hit games in his last eight contests. That's raised his average from .167 to .232. The 21-year-old is still quite raw, though he's been among the better run producers in the Appalachian League this season with 22 RBI in 82 at-bats. The Braves selected Cumberland with the 76th overall pick in this year's draft following a successful college career at Cal-Berkeley.

Enrique Hernandez (rib cage) has moved his minor league rehab assignment to Double-A Tulsa.

He was 3-for-8 with a double and two walks in two games with High-A Rancho Cucamonga. Hernandez has been on the disabled list since late June because of left rib cage inflammation. He should be ready for activation early next week.
