Jon Lester departed his start Thursday against the Reds due to left lat tightness.

Lester called for a trainer after throwing 40 pitches in a brutal second inning that saw the Reds post nine runs -- seven of which were charged to Lester. The veteran southpaw might not be able to take his next turn in the Cubs' rotation. He'll be reevaluated on Friday.

Mets placed INF Jose Reyes on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

It's not considered a serious strain, so Reyes could be ready for activation as soon as his 10 days are up. Gavin Cecchini and Matt Reynolds have both been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to provide the Mets with badly-needed infield depth.

Mets recalled INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini will give the Mets much-needed infield depth. He was batting .267/.329/.380 through 497 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level.

Mets recalled INF/OF Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Reynolds is starting at third base and hitting eighth Thursday night against Yankees right-hander Luis Severino. The 26-year-old utility infielder holds a .217/.265/.377 career batting line at the major league level.

Wilmer Flores (rib cage) remains out of the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday.

Flores was a late scratch Wednesday due to soreness on the left side of his rib cage and is apparently still experiencing some discomfort. Matt Reynolds has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and will start at third base and bat eighth Thursday night against Yankees right-hander Luis Severino.

Jon Lester left with a trainer in the second inning of his start Thursday against the Reds.

Lester had allowed a whopping eight runs -- seven earned -- on one walk and seven hits in the top of the second when he signaled toward the dugout. He didn't appear seriously hurt, but look for a status update sometime this afternoon on the veteran left-hander. Cincinnati wound up scoring nine total runs in the frame.

Yankees recalled 1B Tyler Austin from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Austin fractured his left foot in February and then promptly strained his hamstring when the Yankees promoted in late June, but the 25-year-old first baseman had been hitting the ball well at Triple-A over the last couple of weeks and has earned another callup before the expansion of MLB rosters in September. That said, it's not clear how much he's going to play in New York.

Jose Ramirez was removed from Thursday's game against the Twins after taking a pitch off his right forearm.

Twins starter Kyle Gibson plunked Ramirez with a 93.1 mph fastball in the top of the second inning. Giovanny Urshela entered to run the bases and handle the hot corner for the Tribe. There should be an injury update soon from Minnesota's Target Field.
