Mark Melancon recorded his ninth save of the season Monday in the Giants' 6-4 win over the Cubs.

Melancon gave up a two-out single to Javier Baez but fanned Ian Happ to seal the victory for San Francisco. The veteran closer is 3-for-3 in save opportunities since coming off the disabled list May 17. He has a 2.63 ERA and 11/1 K/BB ratio in 13 2/3 total innings this year.

Scott Feldman pitched six innings and allowed one run Monday in a defeat of the Indians.

Feldman struck out nine, which, believe it or not, is actually three off his career high (he fanned 12 in a complete-game victory over the Padres in 2013). Still, this was his high game in two years; he hadn't fanned as many as seven since 2015. Feldman is 3-4 with a 3.99 ERA.

Joe Panik went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the Giants' defeat of the Cubs on Monday.

Panik scored the first run of the night with his solo shot off Cubs starter John Lackey in the top of the first inning, and he plated the Giants' second run with an RBI double off Lackey in the top of the second. Panik also reached on a hit-by-pitch in the fourth and he doubled again in the top of the sixth. The second baseman lifted his season OPS from .641 to .698 with the offensive outburst.

Josh Tomlin gave up five runs -- four earned -- in 6 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Reds.

Tomlin has been bad enough this season that he actually lowered his ERA in this one; he's now 2-6 with a 6.70 ERA. The Indians have to be giving serious consideration to bumping him from the rotation when Corey Kluber returns.
May 22 - 11:28 PM

Zack Cozart started Monday and went 1-for-4 with two RBI against the Indians.

Cozart didn't play Sunday because of lingering soreness in his left wrist.
May 22 - 11:25 PM

Javier Baez finished 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Cubs' loss to the Giants on Monday.

Ben Zobrist was the only other Cubs batter to register multiple hits in this one. Baez struck his two-run shot off Giants starter Ty Blach in the bottom of the eighth, but the Cubs entered that inning trailing 6-0 and would ultimately fall 6-4. Baez is batting .264/.301/.496 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 38 games this season for the defending World Series champions.
May 22 - 11:24 PM

Jason Kipnis hit his fourth homer to give the Indians their only run in Monday's loss to the Reds.

Kipnis has hit in eight straight since the Indians inserted him into the leadoff spot, going 13-for-35 with four homers during the stretch. Oddly, he has 10 RBI and just five runs scored to date as a leadoff man.
May 22 - 11:23 PM

Ty Blach limited the Cubs to three earned runs over seven-plus innings Monday for his second win.

The lefty was working on a shutout until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Jason Heyward singled, Javier Baez struck a two-run homer, and Ian Happ tripled to drive Blach from the game. He yielded eight hits in all but struck out three and didn't issue a single walk. Brach now stands 2-2 with a 4.10 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 14/10 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings this season. He lines up to face the Braves at home in his next outing.
