Cardinals placed RHP Joe Kelly on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Kelly suffered the injury Wednesday at Miller Park while trying to leg out a groundball to first base in the top of the fifth inning. He was sent back to St. Louis for an MRI, the results of which aren't yet available. Tyler Lyons appears likely to take his rotation spot next week against the Mets.

Jason Bartlett (ankle) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with High-A Fort Myers.

Bartlett has been on the shelf since April 7 with a sprained left ankle. The Twins are expected to leave him on his minor league rehab assignment for a couple of weeks so that he can work on his swing. Bartlett batted just .093 with a .245 OPS during spring training.

Dodgers shortstop prospect Corey Seager went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base on Wednesday night for High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Seager is hitting .321/.381/.446 with five doubles, a triple, and four stolen bases over his first 14 games of the season. He hit just .160/.246/.320 in his 27-game introduction to the California League in 2013, so it's good to see that he is hitting well at the same level in 2014. While Seager has yet to hit a home run this season, he projects to have 15-20 home run power at his peak.
Apr 17 - 12:52 PM

Reds right-handed pitching prospect Ben Lively struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings on Wednesday at High-A Bakersfield, allowing just two hits.

Lively sports a 0.53 ERA, has struck out 23 batters, and has allowed just seven hits without surrendering a walk, leading to a 12.2 K/9, 0.412 WHIP, and a 3.7 H/9 through 17 innings. He looks like a mid-rotation starter for now, but if the 22-year-old keeps up his incredible season he could rocket up prospect lists.
Apr 17 - 12:33 PM

Hanley Ramirez (hand) is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup on Thursday against the Giants.

Ramirez left Wednesday's game after being hit on the left hand by a 90 mph fastball from Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong. X-rays came back negative and he's listed as day-to-day. Justin Turner will start at shortstop.
Apr 17 - 12:27 PM

Astros prospect SS Carlos Correa hit his second home run of the year Wednesday night at High-A Lancaster.

Correa batted .400 with a double and a home run during a three-game series in High Desert, one of the most power-friendly parks in professional baseball. He is hitting .283/.328/.453 despite being more than 3 1/2 years younger than the average player in the California League.
Apr 17 - 12:12 PM

Cubs prospect 2B Arismendy Alcantara went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple Wednesday at Triple-A Iowa.

Alcantara is hitting .289/.306/.467 with six doubles, a triple, and three stolen bases in his first 13 games in Triple-A. He has not walked enough in the first two weeks and strikes out more than is preferable for a leadoff hitter, but he has the talent to hit .300 in the major leagues while stealing 20-plus bases and hitting 30-plus doubles. With Darwin Barney hitting .120/.290/.120 at the major league level, it looks like Alcantara could get promoted in early June once the "Super Two" deadline has passed.
Apr 17 - 12:04 PM

Brewers recalled UTIL Elian Herrera from Triple-A Nashville.

Herrera will provide depth for the Milwaukee bench while Lyle Overbay is away on paternity leave. Herrera is a .251/.336/.328 career hitter in the major leagues.
