Matt Adams went 3-for-4 and hit a three-run homer Tuesday as the Cardinals and Mets played to a 3-3 tie.

Even though he's fanned 19 times in 47 at-bats, Adams has hit .340 with five homers this spring. The Cardinals seem to think he'll be usable in left field, but it's hard to imagine him outhitting Randall Grichuk enough to make up for what should be a pretty huge difference defensively. Grichuk projects as the better hitter anyway; he has a .797 to .770 edge when it comes to their career OPSs.

Tyler Thornburg has been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and will be shut down from throwing for 10 days.

He'll be re-evaluated after that, but it's an injury that figures to keep Thornburg on the shelf for a while even if all goes well from here on out. Acquired via trade from the Brewers over the winter, Thornburg had been in line to be the club's Opening Day setup man. However, he was limited to just two appearances this spring due to a "dead arm" and now the shoulder issue.

Adam Wainwright pitched five innings and allowed three runs Tuesday in his start against the Mets.

Wainwright had just one bad inning, when he surrendered two singles and then gave up a three-run bomb to Lucas Duda on a 1-2 pitch with two outs in the fourth. Still, he ends a rather discouraging spring with a 7.78 ERA. There were times when his control was lacking and others when he was just too easily hittable. We're not writing him off a mixed-league starter this year, but his ceiling isn't all that high at this point.

Robert Gsellman yielded three runs in six innings and struck out six Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Gsellman figures to start the Mets' fourth game of the season with Steven Matz likely DL bound. He's worth trying in mixed leagues, even though the Mets defense won't be much help behind him.

Lucas Duda homered to account for all three Mets runs Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Things weren't looking good for Duda when he was dealing with back and hip issues a few weeks ago, but he hasn't had any issues since he resumed playing in games and he's hitting .244 with a .911 OPS in 41 at-bats. His fantasy upside still isn't what it was; not only will he sit against a lot of lefties, but he's probably going to be stuck hitting seventh behind Jay Bruce in the Mets lineup. Those two are going to draw a bunch of a lefty relievers while paired together.

Pirates optioned INF Gift Ngoepe to Triple-A Indianapolis; re-assigned INF Jason Rogers to minor league camp.

Ngoepe went 18-for-42 at the plate this spring, but he was never really in the running for a roster spot. The 27-year-old is coming off a terrible season at Indy, so he could use more seasoning.

Pirates optioned LHP Steven Brault to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Brault put up a solid 3.45 ERA across 15 2/3 innings this spring, but that wasn't enough to win the final spot in the Pirates' rotation. The fifth spot is now down to Tyler Glasnow, Drew Hutchison and Trevor Williams.

ByungHo Park walked and homered for the only run of the game as the Twins beat the Rays 1-0 on Tuesday.

Park has won a starting job by hitting .362 with five homers and an 1.149 OPS this spring. What he hasn't done is convince Paul Molitor he deserves to bat in the middle of the order; he hit seventh in this one and might stay there when the games start to count. If he keeps it up, he'll have to get a look in the fourth or fifth spot eventually.
