Bears rookie RB Ka'Deem Carey rushed four times for 15 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards in Friday night's preseason game at Seattle.
After playing behind both Matt Forte and Shaun Draughn in Chicago's first two preseason games, Carey was the No. 2 back on Friday night, behind only Forte. The Bears clearly want Carey to win their primary backup job, although he has struggled throughout August, managing 74 yards on 27 carries (2.74 YPC) two three exhibition affairs. Carey has not impressed us from a Dynasty perspective.
Undrafted rookie CB Malcolm Butler started the Patriots' third preseason game Friday night.
Butler struggled, getting beaten twice by fellow rookie Kelvin Benjamin. He has played well this preseason, though, and should earn a roster spot with Brandon Browner suspended the first four games of the season.
Josh Morgan caught 3-of-5 targets for 48 yards in the Bears' third preseason game Friday night in Seattle.
Morgan worked as the Bears' No. 3 receiver, ahead of Santonio Holmes, although that could be a temporary assignment for the ex-Redskin and 49er. Holmes should eventually prove the more dynamic option in three-wideout sets.
Bears S Chris Conte suffered a concussion in Friday night's preseason game.
It's a bad break for Conte, whose roster chances may be slipping way. He just recently returned to practice after major offseason shoulder surgery.
Robert Turbin rushed six times for 26 yards and caught a four-yard pass in Seattle's third preseason game Friday night against the Bears.
He has 112 yards on 22 carries in the preseason. Turbin rotated with Christine Michael against Chicago after Marshawn Lynch handled Seattle's first drive. Michael was the primary back in the red zone and showed well in blitz pickup. As C-Mike is Seattle's most talented runner, Turbin should be feeling the heat. We suspect Turbin and Michael would form something of a timeshare in the event of a Lynch injury, making the Seahawks' starter fairly difficult to handcuff. Turbin may be the more complete back, but Michael would be the higher-ceiling option.
Panthers DE Greg Hardy reinjured his bruised shoulder against the Patriots Friday night.
Hardy played most of the second quarter with the injury, indicating he should be ready for the regular season opener. Hardy was convicted in July of assault on a female and communicating threats, but is appealing the decision. He is unlikely to be suspended this season.
UDFA Allen Hurns had seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' third preseason game Friday night.
Hurns saw regular snaps with the first team, playing opposite Marqise Lee in two-wide sets. He has experience in OC Jedd Fisch’s system from their days in Miami and has shown good chemistry with Chad Henne and Blake Bortles. Hurns' touchdown came against second-stringers on an 11-yard pass from Bortles in the third quarter. He's now up to 13 receptions for 230 yards and a touchdown through three preseason games. Hurns is a candidate to start Week 1 over Lee or Cecil Shorts. He's worth a look as a late-round flier.
Christine Michael rushed eight times for 28 yards and caught 3-of-3 targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' third preseason game.
He was the third Seahawks back to enter, behind Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin. Michael and Turbin both got first-team run after Lynch departed, however, with C-Mike handling deep red-zone carries toward the end of Seattle's second drive. Perhaps most promisingly, Michael executed on a first-quarter blitz pickup of Lance Briggs. There are no questions about Michael's running ability, but he still needs to polish the finer points of his game. He fumbled in each of the Seahawks' first two preseason affairs, but displayed ball security on Friday night and was very active in the passing game, which has historically been a weakness for C-Mike. He's a high-upside Dynasty stash, albeit with injury-dependent re-draft value.
