Brad Boxberger fanned all three batters he faced Monday against the Brewers for his 12th hold.

Manager Joe Maddon has finally found his go-to combo late in games: Boxberger in the eighth and Jake McGee in the ninth. Boxberger has pitched 12 1/3 scoreless innings this month, striking out 20 batters in the process.

Jayson Werth left Monday's game against the Marlins with an apparent leg injury.

Werth tweaked something while trying to stretch a single into a double in the top of the seventh inning. He was replaced in right field by Nate McLouth in the bottom of the frame. The Nationals should provide an update on the outfielder shortly.

Rickie Weeks went 0-for-3 against the Rays on Monday to halt his hitting streak at seven games.

Weeks has gotten to play regularly of late with Scooter Gennett hurt, and he's been taking advantage, with eight hits, three doubles and three walks in 25 at-bats since the break. Gennett did return tonight, but since the game was in an AL park, Weeks was able to DH. He might sit tomorrow against Alex Cobb, but he'll be in Wednesday's lineup versus David Price.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Blue Jays, Cardinals, Pirates and Braves have scouts at Monday's Bartolo Colon versus A.J. Burnett matchup.

It's not clear which pitcher each team is evaluating (and it's possible they're evaluating both). Colon certainly got the better of the matchup, as he tossed 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball, while Burnett was tagged for seven runs over five frames. Both pitchers could be moved prior to Thursday's deadline.

A.J. Pollock (hand) will take live batting practice on Tuesday.

If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Diamondbacks. Pollock will need a couple weeks' worth of rehab at-bats but is tracking towards a return to the D'Backs in mid-August. He's been sidelined for the last two months after breaking his right hand.

Brett Lawrie (finger) has begun hitting off a tee but has yet to face live pitching.

It's not clear when he'll be cleared for batting practice. Lawrie needs to go out on a rehab assignment before returning and the expectation is that he's still at least a couple weeks away from a return. He's been on the shelf since late June with a fractured right index finger.

Adam Lind (foot) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Thursday.

However, the Blue Jays could decide to wait until they begin a homestand on August 5. "He's running, he's still a little bit hobbled, but he's able to do a bit of everything," manager John Gibbons said of Lind, who has been sidelined since early July with a non-displaced fracture in his right foot.
Jul 28 - 9:08 PM

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that "if I was to say right now," Brandon Morrow (finger) will "probably be a reliever" when he returns.

"But by then, you never know what we're looking at anyways," Gibbons added. "We may need a starter, we don't know as a team where we're going to be at that point." Morrow has resumed throwing from a mound, but Gibbons said the righty is not yet "cutting it loose." The Jays are hoping to get him back in September.
